World IBD Day is marked every year on May 19. It is a day dedicated to raising awareness of inflammatory bowel diseases. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are the two most common types of IBD. They are chronic inflammatory conditions that affect our digestive tracts. The European Federation of Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis Associations (EFCCA) coordinates patient organizations representing more than 50 countries. They started the day in 2010 to support the fight against inflammatory bowel diseases, raise awareness of the diseases, and promote research and studies in the field. IBD cannot be cured. With proper treatment and medication, it is possible to significantly control inflammation and increase the period of remission.
