DESCRIPTION:Did you know KRCC operates two homeless shelters? East KY House of Hope located in Floyd County and Haven House in Breathitt County. Know someone who needs shelter? Please contact KRCC crisis hotline today to begin the process. \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE WORLD HOMELESS DAY \n\n\n\n1.        Volunteer \n\n\n\nYou can volunteer your time at a non-profit organization that works for homeless people. Habitat for Humanity and organizations like it are good places where you can volunteer your service; your local soup kitchen is another. \n\n\n\n2.        Host a fundraiser \n\n\n\nOrganize a fundraiser on World Homeless Day to collect funds for the homeless in your community. You can also donate to an organization of your choice that is involved in helping the homeless. \n\n\n\n3.        Write to your local politicians \n\n\n\nCollect signatures on a petition and write to your local politicians\, urging them to take action against homelessness. Ask your elected representatives about how they plan to solve the crisis of homelessness in your community. \n\n\n\n5 FACTS ABOUT HOMELESSNESS \n\n\n\n1.        At least 580\,000 people in America are homeless \n\n\n\nThis number of people could occupy five football stadiums. \n\n\n\n2.        The overwhelming number of homeless kids \n\n\n\nAbout 2.5 million children\, representing one in every 30\, experiences homelessness every year in the United States. \n\n\n\n3.        Homelessness leads to mental health problems in children \n\n\n\nNo less than 40% of homeless school-age children have mental health problems. \n\n\n\n4.        It reduces life expectancy \n\n\n\nBeing homeless could take 20–30 years off one’s life. \n\n\n\n5.        Many veterans are homeless \n\n\n\nCoupled with the lack of a place to call home\, most of these veterans also suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (P.T.S.D.) and substance abuse.
