SUMMARY:National Fried Chicken Day
DESCRIPTION:Fried chicken’s a greasy\, deliciously indulgent comfort food enjoyed all over the world. But did you know that the ultimate soul food originated in our own backyard — where Scottish chicken-frying methods were combined with West African seasoning traditions — to create what is now one of the world’s favorite guilty pleasures? Fried chicken was an expensive delicacy up until World War II\, but thanks to mass production techniques\, we’re now able to indulge ourselves on the cheap in almost any city in the world. So on July 6\, we get out our buckets ‘o’ chicken and napkins\, because it’s National Fried Chicken Day. \n\n\n\nExplore the original KFC \n\n\n\nhttp://www.sanderscafe.com/

SUMMARY:Tell the Truth Day
DESCRIPTION:Tell the Truth Day is observed on July 7. Like most of us\, at some point\, you probably told a lie but\, hopefully\, it was just a white lie with little consequence. Unfortunately\, lying can lead to much more harmful outcomes when it becomes a personality trait. Truthfulness and honesty are the foundations of living with integrity. Here are some ideas on how to observe this very meaningful day. \n\n\n\nHOW TO CELEBRATE TELL THE TRUTH DAY\n\n\n\n1.     Tell the truth the whole day\n\n\n\nMake it your goal for the day. Try and identify the moments when you would usually resort to lying and make an effort to tell the truth. \n\n\n\n2.     Talk to children about the importance of honesty\n\n\n\nThis is a great day to explain the value of truthfulness to your children or other young family members and loved ones. \n\n\n\n3.     Come clean\n\n\n\nHave you told a lie that you wish you could come clean of? This is a great opportunity to do it. \n\n\n\n5 FACTS ABOUT HONESTY\n\n\n\n1.     It is highly valued\n\n\n\nMost employers place honesty as the top characteristic they want from their staff. \n\n\n\n2.     Billy Joel wrote a song about it\n\n\n\n‘Honesty\,’ released in 1978\, is considered one of the songwriter’s greatest hits. \n\n\n\n3.     Lying can be a habit\n\n\n\nResearch has shown that adults tend to lie 11 times per week\, a little over once per day. \n\n\n\n4.     People give physical cues when they lie\n\n\n\nThese include\, but are not limited to\, looking away and fidgeting. \n\n\n\n5.     Consumers want it\n\n\n\n84% of consumers agree that brand honesty is very important to them.

SUMMARY:National Kitten Day
DESCRIPTION:Kittens! Who doesn’t love tiny\, adorable kittens? …their big heads\, giant eyes\, tiny pink paws and noses\, and the adorable mews they make…. We can’t resist their cute and furry charms. Surprisingly Americans seem to like cats and kittens best: According to the American Humane Society\, 95.6 million cats were owned\, while 83.3 million households owned a dog. There is certainly nothing wrong with dogs\, but a tiny kitten is irresistible! So join us on July 10\, as we celebrate National Kitten Day!

SUMMARY:National Simplicity Day
DESCRIPTION:It’s time to get back to basics and celebrate National Simplicity Day on July 12! The holiday falls on this date every year to honor the birthday of Henry David Thoreau\, who was born on this day in 1817. So read on for some modern-day tips on how to celebrate National Simplicity Day. As Thoreau himself said: “As you simplify your life\, the laws of the universe will be simpler.” \n\n\n\nNATIONAL SIMPLICITY DAY ACTIVITIES\n\n\n\n1.      Reread Walden\n\n\n\nWe know you probably haven’t read it since you were in high school\, so why not take Thoreau’s birthday to pick it up again? Thoreau chose to remove himself from society for two years to live as simply as possible in a cabin in the woods near Walden Pond and wrote his reflections of that time down in Walden. We know it’s unrealistic to expect you to give up on TV and takeout for that long\, but you can at least live vicariously through him. \n\n\n\n2.      Unplug from your devices\n\n\n\nWe know that it feels like it’s impossible to get through a day without Snapchatting\, constantly checking your work email\, posting to Instagram\, and catching up on the latest HBO show\, but try to challenge yourself to take a break from your computer and smartphone for a day. You’d be surprised at how refreshing it can feel to not be constantly plugged into everything that’s going on in everyone else’s life—and we’re willing to bet that when you log into Facebook the next morning\, you’ll find you didn’t miss much. \n\n\n\n3.      Declutter your home\n\n\n\nWhether it’s a tiny apartment or a four-bedroom house\, do you ever feel like you have too much stuff crammed into your home? Use Simplicity Day as an excuse to take a long\, hard look at all your various objects and figure out what’s really important to you vs. what’s just taking up space. Take everything that falls into the latter category and donate it — you’ll feel more comfortable in your home and you’ll have done a bonus good deed!

SUMMARY:World Benzodiazepine Awareness Day
DESCRIPTION:World Benzodiazepine Awareness Day is observed on July 11 every year. This day is to raise awareness and educate the public about the dangers of long-term use of benzodiazepines. Frequently prescribed for mental health conditions like anxiety\, insomnia\, and seizures\, benzodiazepines are psychoactive drugs. While they may seem harmless\, they are easy to overdose on when used with other medication or alcohol. The primary concern with benzodiazepines is the severe physical dependency cultivated due to prolonged prescriptions\, and this is what the World Benzodiazepine Awareness Day seeks to address. \n\n\n\nHISTORY OF WORLD BENZODIAZEPINE AWARENESS DAY\n\n\n\nWorld Benzodiazepine Awareness Day is on July 11 across the world. This annual observance serves to give awareness and educate the general public about the dangers of benzodiazepines when used over long periods. \n\n\n\nOn their own\, when prescribed for a short term\, benzodiazepines can improve symptoms of anxiety\, insomnia\, and seizures. However\, when these drugs are used for longer than two to four weeks or with other medication or alcohol\, they can have detrimental effects\, including overdose. \n\n\n\nLong-term usage of benzodiazepines can affect individuals with anxiety and agitation\, making their symptoms worse over time rather than improving them. Using these drugs for longer than four weeks can also worsen feelings of suicide ideation and depression in individuals already experiencing these mental health issues. \n\n\n\nBenzodiazepine drugs long-term result in dependency\, even when used at low dosages. Ordinary\, everyday people become unknowingly dependent on benzodiazepines after long-term prescriptions. The World Benzodiazepine Awareness Day or W-BAD was initiated by activists who survived benzodiazepine injury and wanted to bring awareness to the dangers of this drug and the growing problem of people developing a dependence on the drug unknowingly. \n\n\n\nThe day also encourages medical practitioners to follow basic principles when prescribing benzodiazepines to ensure patients know the side effects and dangers of long-term use. These principles encourage doctors to support patients who are long-term users of the drug to prevent injury and wean them off the benzodiazepines onto safer medication.

SUMMARY:International Self Care Day
DESCRIPTION:INTERNATIONAL SELF CARE DAY\n\n\n\nEvery year on July 24th\, International Self Care Day promotes self-care as a vital foundation of health. It’s also a day for people around the world to prioritize self-care and make it a part of their lifestyle. \n\n\n\nWhen you take care of yourself to stay well\, you are practicing self-care. Staying well includes taking care of your whole self: physically\, mentally\, and emotionally. For some\, self-care also includes taking care of themselves spiritually. So what exactly does self-care look like? It could be as simple as having some quiet time each day. Others might have coffee with a friend at least once a week. \n\n\n\nOther examples of self-care include: \n\n\n\nHaving a regular sleep routineMaintaining a healthy weightKeeping a reflective journalPracticing gratitudeGetting a massageListening to relaxing musicReading a good bookLearning to say noAsking for help when necessary\n\n\n\nThere are other areas of self-care that some focus on as well. For example\, financial self-care involves paying bills on time and putting money into savings. Monitoring time on social media and decluttering your home are included in environmental self-care. \n\n\n\nNo matter what kind of self-care one practices\, one is bound to reap benefits. Having a healthier mind and body are the two primary benefits. Other benefits of self-care include feeling less stressed and being less overwhelmed. Self-care is especially important for caregivers. It’s easy for a caregiver to pour all of their time and energy into another person. Doing so eventually takes its toll. As the saying goes\, “You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first.” \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE #InternationalSelfCareDay\n\n\n\nOn this day\, self-care activities are held throughout the world. Countries that have participated in the past include Australia\, Canada\, Kenya\, Mexico\, South Korea\, Tanzania\, the United States\, and Vietnam. Self-care activities include poster design competitions\, concerts\, public lectures\, and sponsored public walks. To participate: \n\n\n\nCome up with a list of ways to practice self-care throughout the remainder of the year.]If you know a full-time caregiver\, offer to take them out for coffee.Learn more about the many benefits of self-care.Read a book to help guide you on your self-care journey\, such as The Comfort Book by Matt Haig\, The Self-Love Experiment by Shannon Kaiser\, or Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown.Take time to listen to a self-care podcast like “Beyond the To-Do List” or “The Chasing Joy Podcast.”

SUMMARY:National Hot Fudge Sundae Day
DESCRIPTION:On July 25th\, National Hot Fudge Sundae Day takes a turn representing National Ice Cream Month in delicious style. Feast on this tasty ice cream dessert that combines hot and cold with a cherry on top. Even more important to note\, this dessert has been served since 1906.  \n\n\n\n#HotFudgeSundaeDay\n\n\n\nGiven that the hot fudge sundae is a variation of the classic sundae\, making one is a cinch. Simply put a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream in a dish. Add hot fudge sauce. Top it with a dollop of whipped cream and some nuts (if you like). Finally\, add a single\, bright-red\, sweet\, maraschino cherry. \n\n\n\nSundae History\n\n\n\nWhile the oldest known record of an ice cream sundae is an Ithaca\, NY advertisement\, the originator of the dessert is still debated. The October 5\, 1892 ad in the Ithaca Daily Journal spelled the ice cream treat with the conventional day of the week spelling – Sunday. \n\n\n\nHowever\, Two Rivers\, Wisconsin claims Druggist Edward Berners served the first ice cream sundae in 1881. According to the story\, customer George Hallauer ordered an ice cream soda on a Sunday. Ordinances at the time prohibited the sale of ice cream sodas on the Sabbath. Even so\, Berners came up with a compromise. He served the ice cream in a dish minus the soda. \n\n\n\nAdditionally\, he topped it with chocolate syrup. Given the day\, he called it a Sundae. One interesting catch – Berners was 18 at the time the story takes place. \n\n\n\nIthaca’s claim to the ice cream sundae takes place at Platt & Colt Pharmacy in 1892 where Reverend John M. Scott stops to order a bowl of ice cream. When Chester Platt\, proprietor\, began preparing the ice cream for his customer\, he didn’t stop at just a couple of scoops of vanilla. Platt drizzled cherry syrup over the ice cream and topped them with a bright red\, candied cherry. The dessert looked and tasted so delightful it required its own name. Since the day was Sunday\, it was named for the day it was created. Ithaca also has historical evidence supporting the story\, including an advertisement for a Cherry Sunday. \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL HOT FUDGE SUNDAE DAY\n\n\n\nWhile out with friends\, enjoy a Hot Fudge Sundae.  Give a shout-out to your favorite ice cream shop.  Post on social media using #HotFudgeSundaeDay.

SUMMARY:National All or Nothing Day
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL ALL OR NOTHING DAY | JULY 26\n\n\n\nCelebrated each year on July 26th\, National All or Nothing Day allows people to throw caution to the wind and go for broke. \n\n\n\n#NationalAllOrNothingDay\n\n\n\nWe all have dreams we hold back\, decisions left to make\, or plans uncompleted. On this day\, people break free of everything holding them back. Everyone has at least one thing that they would like to overcome\, need to do or want to do but might be fearful or hesitant to do so. This is the day to go ahead and do it\, take that first step and go for it. \n\n\n\nOnly I can change my life. No one can do it for me. ~Carol Burnett \n\n\n\nWhether we make a public announcement\, apply for the job we’ve been eying\, or mend a fence\, sometimes we need to take a different path. When other days on the calendar don’t urge us to make a decision or change\, this one will. Define your goal. Enlist help from a friend or family member to encourage you. You can even choose a challenge you can do together. Whatever has been holding you back\, get out there an tackle it! \n\n\n\nSome of the biggest changes in our lives start with small steps. Often they are gut-wrenching decisions because we rarely know whether the outcome will be successful. But how will we ever grow if we don’t reach for those dreams? \n\n\n\nWe all have something we desire to change – celebrate by marking the calendar for the first day of making that change. \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL ALL OR NOTHING DAY\n\n\n\nMake a decision. Take a step. While you’re at it\, let family and friends know about your determination to make some changes. Let ’em know on social media posting #NationalAllOrNothingDay to get them involved too.

SUMMARY:National Love is Kind Day
DESCRIPTION:Just as on July 4th Americans celebrate their independence\, so is July 27th to be celebrated—a day to celebrate independence from the abuser. July 27th\, National Love is Kind Day is the day to: \n\n\n\nCelebrate for all victims of domestic violence/domestic abuse their FREEDOM and INDEPENDENCE from their abuser.Recognize our right to be treated with KINDNESS. Because real love is kind\, not terrorizing.Realize that kindness is the path to healthy and safer relationships\, families\, society\, and the world.Give voice for and hope and support to others who are still suffering\, often in silence.Spread messages how we can be kind to one another\, especially to those closest to us.Remember that love is not abusive\, violent\, demeaning or dehumanizing.  If someone uses love as an excuse for their hurtful behavior\, it’s not real love.\n\n\n\nWith every generation\, the cycle of abuse continues to cripple families\, especially women and children who are most vulnerable. The cycle of abuse must stop now. \n\n\n\n#NationalLoveIsKindDay\n\n\n\nNational Love is Kind Day encourages you to become aware of how you are treating people\, how people are treating you\, and how you can become emboldened\, supported\, and empowered to lead the joyful and productive life you deserve. With improved and proper support\, families can know and experience the freedom and love found in an abuse-free home. Children grow up with positive role models\, and both adults and children lead more productive\, happy\, and mentally healthy lives. \n\n\n\nThe day is an opportunity to say “No to abuse\, violence\, and ridicule! And begin saying\, “Yes\, to kindness!  And yes\, to sharing my voice! Yes\, I am worth it and my life matters. Kindness rules!” \n\n\n\nStop the cycle of abuse and make a difference to create a kinder world. \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL LOVE IS KIND DAY\n\n\n\nThey are many ways to celebrate this day and join the Love is Kind Movement! \n\n\n\nExpect to be treated with kindness. SUMMARY:World Conservation Day - Love Mother Earth
DESCRIPTION:WORLD CONSERVATION DAY\n\n\n\nEvery year on July 28th\, World Nature Conservation Day acknowledges that the foundation for a healthy society is a healthy environment. It’s also a day to increase awareness about the importance of protecting our natural resources. \n\n\n\n#WORLDCONSERVATIONDAY\n\n\n\nOur planet’s natural resources consist of air\, sunlight\, soil\, minerals\, fuels and water. All of these things are found in nature and used by people. Currently\, there are nearly 8 billion people that populate the Earth. This number is expected to exceed 9 billion by 2037. All of these people use the earth’s natural resources every day. Because these resources are getting used up so rapidly\, many people are concerned they will become depleted. For this reason\, many individuals and organizations stress the importance of conserving our natural resources. \n\n\n\nThe good news is\, there are some simple ways to conserve our natural resources. Take water\, for instance. Some scientists say our planet’s water supply will be gone by 2050. One of the easiest ways to conserve water is to use less of it. Taking shorter showers\, shutting off the faucet during teeth brushing\, and using rainwater for irrigation are all ways to do this. \n\n\n\n8 Ways to Conserve Natural Resources\n\n\n\nPlant trees to reduce soil erosionReduce\, reuse and recycleCarpool with co-workersShut off lights when leaving a roomGo digital instead of printing things on paperVolunteer for community cleanupsUse non-toxic cleaning suppliesMake your own compost\n\n\n\nIf everyone does their part\, our planet’s natural resources will be available for years to come. \n\n\n\n5 WAYS TO SUPPORT #WorldNatureConservationDay\n\n\n\nMany conservation organizations around the world hold a variety of events on this day. These events include workshops and educating the general public on how to conserve natural resources. To participate: \n\n\n\nThink of ways you can conserve natural resources in your home and community.Teach your children about the importance of conserving our planet’s natural resources.Watch a documentary\, such as Yert\, A Fierce Green Fire\, and The Blue Planet.Read about famous nature conservationists like John Muir\, Theodore Roosevelt\, Rachel Carson\, Sir David Attenborough\, and Jane Goodall.Share your nature conservation ideas and thoughts on social media by tagging #WorldNatureConservationDay.

SUMMARY:National Mutt Day
DESCRIPTION:National Mutt Day encourages us to embrace\, save and celebrate mixed breed dogs. \n\n\n\n#NationalMuttDay\n\n\n\nDesperately longing for a new home\, millions of loving and healthy mixed breed dogs in shelters wait for someone to come and adopt them. National Mutt Day provides an excellent opportunity to find the perfect canine companion. Despite the name\, a mutt learns\, obeys and trains much like purebred animals. While their lineage cannot be traced and their features a bit murky\, their companionship will be faithful.   \n\n\n\nAccording to the ASPCA\, approximately 3.3 million dogs enter shelters every year. When these abandoned and often abused animals find their way to a shelter\, each one needs a forever home. Whether you know it or not\, their potential is limitless. Some of the benefits of adoption are often hidden. Human and canine both enjoy increased physical activity.  Another boost is social interaction through daily walks. While humans develop patience\, their four-legged companion learns to trust and new limits. For example\, as dogs explore the many scents of the human lifestyle\,  they usually discover shoes are off-limits.  \n\n\n\nNo matter the breed\, size or demeanor of the human\, er\, canine\, the shelter will take the time to find the right home for their animals. They schedule visits and have procedures in place to promote healthy adoptions for families and individuals. While some dogs experience injury or illness\, the shelters work with veterinarians to heal the animals before making them available for adoption. \n\n\n\nOf course\, shelters always welcome donations and volunteers. Dogs love walking\, playing and being loved even if they haven’t found their forever home. Every moment they spend socializing increases their opportunity for adoption. \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL MUTT DAY\n\n\n\nVisit a shelter; if you are unable to adopt a dog\, you can always volunteer. Post on social media using #NationalMuttDay and encourage others to join in.</span \n\n\n\nWant to learn more about mutts and dogs in general?
