SUMMARY:Let's Celebrate the Upcoming Labor Day
DESCRIPTION:LABOR DAY | FIRST MONDAY IN SEPTEMBER\n\n\n\nLabor Day on first Monday of every September recognizes the men and women who labor to build this country. Through a time-honored tradition with roots in the coordinated efforts of the labor movement of the 1800s\, we salute the American workforce.#LaborDay \n\n\n\nSince the founding of the United States\, the country has relied on its workforce for its infrastructure. From its streets and buildings to its transportation and security\, the nation runs on labor. The labor of what we create\, build and harvest fuels our education and inspires our dreams.  \n\n\n\nThis National Day also signals the official end of summer. Those who work hard\, need time to play\, too. With the school year starting and summer winding down\, the long weekend beckons. They use the extra day earned to spend with families and catch some R&R. Some will explore cities while others will seek outdoor adventure. No matter where it’s spent\, it’s well earned.  \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE LABOR DAY\n\n\n\nMany families spend Labor Day weekend on vacation. They pack the campgrounds full or explore tourist towns for one last hurrah! As you celebrate this day\, consider and appreciate your hard work and how it has added to the well-being and prosperity of our country. Use #LaborDay to post on social media. \n\n\n\nReminder- Our COSP will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day!

SUMMARY:National Make Your Bed Day - Improving Daily Living Skills
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL MAKE YOUR BED DAY | SEPTEMBER 11\n\n\n\nEach year on September 11th\, National Make Your Bed Day reminds us of all the benefits a well-made bed offers.  \n\n\n\n#NationalMakeYourBedDay\n\n\n\nWe all need to sleep at some point. And getting a good night’s rest gives us an opportunity to recharge. While we can’t always get a perfect night’s rest\, we can make some changes to improve our sleep habits. Do you want to get a better night’s sleep? According to the National Sleep Foundation\, making your bed can help improve your sleep by reducing the amount of tossing\, turning\, and restlessness we experience. Reducing all that turmoil in the bedroom offers great returns\, such as good health! \n\n\n\nA great night’s sleep can depend on the comfort you feel in your bedroom environment. – National Sleep Foundation At a Behavioral Sleep Medicine Program\, participants learn that the sleep environment is a major component of a restful night’s sleep. In a survey conducted by the National Sleep Foundation\, people who make their bed daily more often have a better night’s sleep. Fresh sheets\, dark and cool rooms\, and comfortable mattresses and pillows also play a factor in mastering sleep comfort.

SUMMARY:National Just One Human Family Day
DESCRIPTION:National Just One Human Family Day on September 12th encourages us to reflect on the human race as a single family who share just one planet. \n\n\n\n#JustOneHumanFamilyDay \n\n\n\nIn 2001\, the world’s population – the Earth’s family – stood at over 6.2 billion. By 2020\, it had grown to 7.8 billion. That’s a lot of family sharing one planet. Just One Human Family Day reminds us that\, as a human race\, we have a responsibility to each other. While we all come from different backgrounds\, speak different languages\, believe differently\, we are all human beings. Our experiences may vary. Even our abilities and weaknesses differ. Another sure thing we share is that we all live on just one planet. Earth. Our brothers\, sisters\, and neighbors are all part of the human family.

SUMMARY:National Sober Day
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL SOBER DAY | SEPTEMBER 14\n\n\n\nNational Sober Day on September 14th encourages us to celebrate Sober life and bring awareness to addiction. The entire day focuses on showing support for anyone living in sobriety. Not only that\, but the observance sets a standard for the whole world that being sober is okay. Show your friends and family on the road to recovery by spending the day sober as well. \n\n\n\n#NationalSoberDay\n\n\n\nIdeally scheduled during National Recovery Month\, the day supports removing the stigma associated with addiction. It opens the lines of communication that lead to better understanding. The day provides an opportunity to build educated support networks. It also strengthens existing ones. Success is more likely when systems are paved with an aware\, loving\, and honest cheering section. If we stumble\, aren’t we more likely to get back up again when we have a solid support system? \n\n\n\nEncouragement of one day fuels more support and awareness\, leading to long-term sobriety. That’s something worth celebrating! The opposite of addiction is a connection. This holiday will provide a model for future generations as well. By demonstrating how to enjoy life alcohol-free\, the day will embolden future generations to say no to alcohol. \n\n\n\nhttps://odcp.ky.gov/Resources/Pages/Treatment-and-Recovery-Resources.aspx

SUMMARY:National Cheeseburger Day
DESCRIPTION:National Cheeseburger Day on September 18th honors America’s favorite sandwich with a slice of cheese. \n\n\n\n#NationalCheeseburgerDay\n\n\n\nA few days ago\, we celebrated National Double Cheeseburger Day. This food holiday is the lighter version. While only a single stack\, this tasty burger still earns a celebration! \n\n\n\nThere are many theories to the beginning of the cheeseburger dating back to the 1920s. One story suggests that Lionel Sternberger invented the cheeseburger in 1926 while working at his father’s Pasadena\, California sandwich shop\, The Rite Spot. During an experiment\, he dropped a slice of American cheese on a sizzling hamburger. \n\n\n\nHowever\, like numerous iconic foods\, many people and restaurants claim the origin story. For example\, a restaurant in Los Angeles called O’Dell’s placed the cheeseburger on their menu in 1928. It came smothered with chili – all for the price of a quarter. Kaelin’s Restaurant in Louisville\, Kentucky claims they invented the cheeseburger in 1934. One record that gives the Humpty Dumpty Drive-In in Denver\, CO bragging rights is the trademark they received in 1935 for the name “cheeseburger.” Another who applied for a trademark of that word was Gus Belt\, the founder of Steak n’ Shake. Sometime in the 1930s he also applied for the trademark.  \n\n\n\nDespite all these claims\, a couple of things are for sure. The cheeseburger checks all the marks for satisfying a craving\, and the cheeseburger isn’t going anywhere! \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL CHEESEBURGER DAY\n\n\n\nGrill up or fry up your favorite cheeseburger. You don’t even have to cook. Visit your favorite burger joint and order up a delicious cheeseburger. With all the options available\, you’re sure to find one that fits your taste.

SUMMARY:Talk Like a Pirate Day - Let's Have Some Fun!
DESCRIPTION:Talk Like a Pirate Day sails away annually on September 19th. \n\n\n\n#TalkLikeAPirateDay\n\n\n\nAll you bilge rats\, Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgh! As you are out and about on September 19th\, don’t be surprised if people are saying\, “Ahoy Matie\,” “Avast\,” “Aye\, Aye Capt’n\,” “Land ho!” “Hornpipe\,” and many other pirate-like phrases\, because it’s International Talk Like a Pirate Day.  \n\n\n\nWhile ordering your coffee in the drive-thru\, ask if they have change for gold bullion. Try testing your pirate language out at the library when asking for the location of Moby Dick. The pirate language always fairs well in rough seas. Settle a debate with “I’m right or I’ll walk the plank!” \n\n\n\nWhen the boss gives you a new project\, “Aye\, aye\, Capt’n\,” is the correct response. However\, beware calling the boss any frothy names. The goal of the day is not to lose your job. \n\n\n\nTo polish your persona\, practice a swagger\, limp or squint. Long days at sea give pirates unique qualities. \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY\n\n\n\nAnchor’s away! Get your sea legs and a barrel o’ rum. Feel free to join in anytime with your own version of Pirate-ese. Learn more on how to talk like a pirate here. Use #TalkLikeAPirateDay to share on social media. \n\n\n\nEducators\, visit the National Day Calendar Classroom for projects all year long – including talking like a pirate! \n\n\n\nTALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY HISTORY\n\n\n\nJohn Baur and Mark Summers (aka Ol’ Chumbucket and Cap’n Slappy) created this international day in 1995. Click here for the entire story!

SUMMARY:National Voter's Registration Day
DESCRIPTION:National Voter Registration Day in September urges citizens to register to vote. Make your vote count! \n\n\n\n#VoterRegistrationDay\n\n\n\nMore than 300\,000 Americans registered to vote on the inaugural day of the observance in 2012. That number jumped to 800\,000 in 2018. The day helps to ensure eligible voters register in their districts each year. The awareness campaign provides valuable information for each state\, too. Timed ideally a few months before some of the bigger elections of the year\, the day places information in the hands of the voters at the right time.   \n\n\n\nThere are hundreds of local\, state\, and national organizations driving the day and bringing it to you\, too. Partner organizations help also by coordinating thousands of public events to bring awareness about ballot initiatives\, local elections\, and voter registration. \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE VOTER REGISTRATION DAY\n\n\n\nIf your right to vote means anything to you\, make sure you are registered. While registration isn’t required in every state\, every state has minimum requirements. Knowing what they are and being prepared to vote is an important part of a democracy. \n\n\n\nLearn about your voter rights and requirements. Be informed by checking where your polling place is. You can also learn more about mail-in voting. If you have any questions about voter registration\, all the answers are conveniently located in one place. Each state has different requirements. So\, if you’ve moved recently\, be sure to know the requirements where you live. Make your vote count.  \n\n\n\nRegister to vote and use #VoterRegistrationDay to post on social media.

SUMMARY:National Day of Forgiveness
DESCRIPTION:Forgiveness is a potent tool on a journey of spiritual\, mental\, emotional\, and physical health. That’s why on September 27th\, National Day of Forgiveness encourages us to develop realistic methods for incorporating forgiveness in our lives. \n\n\n\nThe act of forgiveness is powerful. But\, granting forgiveness is more than an act – it’s a process. Forgiveness teaches us about ourselves as much as it teaches us about others. Whether a person suffers from mental or emotional pain\, grief\, or trauma\, forgiveness can set us on a path of healing. Forgiveness can also develop into a practice that teaches us to value compassion\, kindness\, and love. \n\n\n\nMyths About Forgiveness\n\n\n\nForgiveness means different things to different people\, but there are myths associated with forgiveness. Forgiveness does not mean: \n\n\n\nContinuing a relationship.Approving the other person’s behavior. One person wins\, and the other loses.\n\n\n\nThere is no requirement to continue a relationship with someone you forgive. Many relationships do not remain the same after forgiveness. Accepting that or choosing to let a relationship end also helps us heal. Though\, forgiveness can repair some relationships\, especially if the receiver understands that forgiveness does not condone the behavior. \n\n\n\nForgiveness sets us free and allows us to begin the process of healing. When we truly forgive\, it is easy(ier) to forget because what once plagued us is no longer wired the same in our neural network. We can remember if needed\, but after forgiveness\, the memory fades into the far distance only to be retrieved if needed for ‘relatability’ (or a story). Even then\, there is no “charge” associated with the memory anymore. \n\n\n\nForgiveness doesn’t always happen in an instant\, either\, though it can. A single verbal statement doesn’t complete the process. However\, over time and with willingness and some practice\, we can let go of our anger\, bitterness\, and resentment. Forgiveness is a decision. \n\n\n\nForgiveness Benefits\n\n\n\nWhile granting forgiveness may be challenging\, it comes with a wealth of benefits. During the process\, we may discover the person we need to forgive most is ourselves. Self-forgiveness is another healthy tool to learn. Thus\, National Day of Forgiveness also offers an opportunity to understand the benefits of forgiveness. \n\n\n\nForgiveness relieves stress. The stress we feel from anger\, resentment\, and bitterness lessens and even fades entirely. The burden of these feelings creates anxiety and stress that we no longer have to carry when we forgive. The act of forgiveness helps us to close a wound. When we forgive\, we give ourselves permission to heal. There is freedom in healing. When we forgive\, we also give ourselves permission to stop living in the past. We focus less on the damaging feelings and begin to look forward to the future. When we detach from the heaviness\, anger\, pain\, and resentment\, we no longer allow the past to control us.Forgiveness also benefits our physical health. Reduced anxiety and stress mean lower blood pressure\, a stronger heart\, and an improved immune system. SUMMARY:National Good Neighbor Day
DESCRIPTION:National Good Neighbor Day on September 28th creates an opportunity for neighbors to get to know each other better. This day acknowledges and celebrates the importance of a good neighbor. \n\n\n\n#GoodNeighborDay\n\n\n\nIt is a blessing to have a good neighbor\, but it is even a greater thing to BE a good neighbor. Good neighbors often become friends. They watch out for each other\, lend a helping hand\, and are there for advice when asked.  Neighbors offer that cup of sugar when we are short\, collect our mail when we are on vacation\, watch our homes\, and sometimes watch our children and our pets. Simply put\, being a good neighbor makes good neighbors and develops lifelong friendships.   \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE GOOD NEIGHBOR DAY\n\n\n\nBeing a good neighbor isn’t all that difficult. Starting with kindness is always the first step. \n\n\n\nOffer a kind word. Even a small compliment goes a long way to creating a bond or breaking down barriers.Bring extra bounty from your garden or baked goods.Invite them to join an informal celebration in your home.Introduce them to your pets or offer a gardening tip.Ask who they recommend for a service such as taxes\, painting\, or car care. You will earn their respect\, especially if the question is something they have first-hand experience with.\n\n\n\nUse #GoodNeighborDay to post on social media.
