SUMMARY:Share a Smile Day
DESCRIPTION:Even when life is challenging\, work is hard or relationships are difficult\, any day can be made just a little bit better with a smile or two. And that’s what Share a Smile Day is all about! \n\n\n\nHistory of Share a Smile Day\n\n\n\nShare a Smile Day has origins that date back to 1997\, though obviously people have been smiling for much longer than that! This day was established with the purpose of creating opportunities for fostering a good mood and happiness throughout families\, workplaces and communities. Finding its place on the calendar in early March\, this time\, after making it through to the end of winter is just when a smile is most welcome. \n\n\n\nSmiles have the power to break down barriers of culture and language\, since they don’t actually require any words at all. It’s not even necessary to bare teeth\, because a smile can be subtle and natural. Plus\, there’s not really any time commitment because a smile can easily be given on the go and in the moment\, usually without any need to stop whatever activity is happening at the time. \n\n\n\nShow some love and appreciation for someone close\, like a family member or friend\, or make the world a better place by smiling at random strangers or people encountered throughout the community on this day. No matter what\, Share a Smile Day is sure to add some sunshine and bring a smile to many faces. Because everyone knows it is almost impossible not to smile back at someone who smiles at you! \n\n\n\nWhile smiling is certainly something that can be done to make others in the world happy\, it’s also an activity that benefits everyone – including the smiler. Smiling has actual physical health benefits\, including relieving stress\, reducing pain\, preventing illness\, lowering the blood pressure\, and even allowing a person to live a longer life. So save the world – and save yourself– by engaging with Share a Smile Day\, not only on this day but as a habit throughout the calendar year. \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate Share a Smile Day\n\n\n\nHave a perfect excuse to exercise those facial muscles just in time for Share a Smile Day! Bring some light and joy to a person’s day\, including your own\, by making a point of celebrating this day with some fun and delightful ideas\, including these: \n\n\n\nShare a Smile\n\n\n\nOf course\, every day is a good day to show off those bright and shiny smile muscles\, but Share a Smile Day is even more special. It’s a time to be more aware and make an effort to smile at someone. Smile at a neighbor\, at the grocery store clerk\, at a taxi driver\, a family member or a coworker. Anyone in the immediate vicinity deserves a smile. Keep the day a secret and make them wonder what you’re up to or\, even better\, tell them that it’s Share a Smile Day and request that they pass their smile on to someone else! \n\n\n\nListen to Some Songs About Smiles\n\n\n\nHaving trouble getting in the mood to make smiles contagious? That’s okay! Get prepared for Share a Smile Day by making and listening to a playlist that encourages joy\, happiness and smiles. Hop on to Spotify\, Apple music or some other platform and create a list of songs that make it hard not to smile. The list could be much longer\, but it’s easy to get started with some of these: \n\n\n\nJust to See You Smile by Tim McGraw (1997)Smile Like You Mean It by The Killers (2004)I See Your Smile by Gloria Estefan (1993)You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile from the musical Annie (1982)\n\n\n\nRead a Book About Smiles\n\n\n\nLooking to learn more and grow in the conversation about smiling? Well\, reading a book is always a good way to gather information and get more deeply involved with a subject. In celebration of Share a Smile Day\, get connected by heading over to the local library or independent bookstore and see what sorts of books about smiling are on offer\, including some children’s books. Check out some of these book titles to get started with: \n\n\n\nAugustus and His Smile by Catherine Rayner (2007)Smile: The Story of a Face by Sarah Ruhl (2021)365 Reasons for Smiling: In Thoughts and Pictures by White Star (2015)Something to Smile About: Encouragement and Inspiration for Life’s Ups and Downs by Zig Ziglar (2009)

SUMMARY:Do Something Day
DESCRIPTION:https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/dissociative-disorders/what-are-dissociative-disorders\n\n\n\n\nWhether in a season of success or failure\, whether struggling with difficulties\, overcoming the odds\, or living your best life\, Do Something Day brings with a myriad of opportunities to stay encouraged\, look up and keep moving forward to live out your dreams! \n\n\n\nHistory of Do Something Day\n\n\n\nThis day is also known as “March Forth and Do Something Day.” Since the name of the day is also a command\, it’s only natural that this would be a time to celebrate what it means to move forward in life. The ultimate play on words\, March Fourth simply becomes “March Forth” and these hours become all about encouragement\, motivation and perseverance. \n\n\n\nAt times it can be easy to get a little stuck in life. Whether it’s working at a dead-end job\, staying in a negative relationship or simply letting old\, unhealthy habits get the best of you. Do Something Day is about getting unstuck from the old ways of doing things and taking a step forward toward a new and exciting future. \n\n\n\nPerfectly positioned toward the end of the winter months\, Do Something Day lets people look beyond the dark and dreary winter and take some moments to consider the fruitfulness of the coming season. This is an attitude that works great when employed every day\, but is particularly relevant when applied to the community on Do Something Day! \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate Do Something Day\n\n\n\nDo Something Day is a great day to celebrate all of the ways it is possible to move forward in life. Have a blast celebrating the day with some of these ideas: \n\n\n\nDo Something Productive\n\n\n\nThe essence of Do Something Day might be taken literally\, like getting off the couch and marching out into the world to go for a walk. Or it might be taken more figuratively\, like setting aside some time to take stock of life\, make some plans for the future\, and leave behind those things that are holding you back. Get out a notebook\, do some soul searching\, write down ideas and dreams\, and then make a plan to accomplish a goal! \n\n\n\nSee a Life Coach\n\n\n\nSome people who feel stuck can benefit from the help that is provided when a person acts as a life coach for them. Make an appointment with a life coach\, whether online or in person and allow them to help refine dreams\, set goals\, and figure out how to go about accomplishing the steps that will help you Do Something Day into the future! \n\n\n\nEncourage Someone Else\n\n\n\nMaybe it’s a coworker who is feeling stuck in their position at work. Perhaps it is a student who is unsure how to move forward into the future. Or maybe it’s a neighbor who is just not feeling motivated. In any case\, random acts of kindness and encouragement might be just what is needed to help friends\, family members or others in the community to Do Something Day with their lives. Send a card\, write a note or simply speak some words of encouragement in support and celebration of the day.

SUMMARY:Dissociative Identity Disorder Awareness Day
DESCRIPTION:Dissociative Identity Disorder is a relatively new disorder that psychiatrists have been learning about as it often goes undiagnosed among the general population. For those diagnosed with it\, however\, it can be a terrifying experience to know that the mental conditions they’ve been living with have a name. \n\n\n\nDissociative Identity Disorder Awareness Day aims to change those fears by spreading awareness of its existence to today’s society and help bring about education and success through understanding and compassion. \n\n\n\nHistory of Dissociative Identity Disorder Awareness Day\n\n\n\nDissociative Identity Disorder\, originally called Multiple Personality Disorder\, is a medical condition where those affected with it have memory loss\, out of body experiences\, detachment from emotions\, and a lack of self-identity. \n\n\n\nAccording to the National Alliance of Mental Illness\, only 2% of the United States experiences these symptoms and have been properly diagnosed. Originally\, when it was called Multiple Personality Disorder\, psychiatrists believed and diagnosed people with having at least two different personalities. \n\n\n\nIn today’s definition\, Dissociative Identity Disorder can include multiple personalities\, but also includes a wide variety of other symptoms such as depression\, anxiety\, and dissociative episodes and the disorder is usually caused by previous trauma. \n\n\n\nDissociative Identity Disorder Awareness Day has two goals in mind when it comes to celebrating the holiday. For those personally affected by the disorder\, it can be a way to empower them\, help share their stories\, and learn better ways of loving and accepting themselves in a world where this kind of disorder isn’t well known or understood. \n\n\n\nThe second goal in mind is to raise awareness about the disorder itself\, help others understand what it means to have Dissociative Identity Disorder and learn better ways of managing the disorder in daily life. \n\n\n\nToday’s research has shown the existence of the disorder\, but due to its rarity in many cases\, not many would know about the disorder. The day aims to change that fact and make it more known throughout the world as a valid condition that should be understood by others. \n\n\n\nHow to celebrate Dissociative Identity Disorder Awareness Day\n\n\n\nIf you’re someone who has Dissociative Identity Disorder\, help raise awareness by having a conversation with your friends and family about how it affects you in your daily life. Speak with your therapist about ways of managing the disorder. \n\n\n\nRead up on the latest articles studying the disorder and follow your favorite medical websites on their efforts to bring awareness to the disorder. Reflect on what having the disorder means to you and maybe create flyers and post them around your local neighborhood to spread awareness to the disorder. \n\n\n\nShare this holiday on social media using the hashtag #dissociativeidentitydisorderawarenessday and let your friends know what day it is today.

SUMMARY:National Oreo Day - Share Your Favorite Oreo Recipes
DESCRIPTION:Oh\, Oh\, Oh\, O-R-E-O! For more than 100 years\, Oreo cookies have been a companion to kids and adults of all ages\, bringing the delicious taste of nostalgia and childhood to people all over the world! \n\n\n\nHistory of National Oreo Cookie Day\n\n\n\nMaking its first appearance in 1912\, the Oreo Cookie actually started out being called the Oreo Biscuit. Created and manufactured by the Nabisco (National Biscuit Company)\, the cookie was made from two crisp chocolate rounds filled with white cream. Starting out in Chelsea\, New York City\, the complex was located on Ninth Avenue\, a street which eventually got a name change to become “Oreo Way”. \n\n\n\nSince that time\, the Oreo has been the best-selling cookie in the United States for many years. People love to eat the Oreo in a variety of ways\, whether dunking it into a cool glass of milk\, twisting it and licking the cream out of the center or just taking a crunchy bite. \n\n\n\nNational Oreo Cookie Day is here to celebrate the anniversary of the day when the first Oreo Cookie was introduced to the world!

SUMMARY:World Book Day - Share Your Favorites
DESCRIPTION:Some people like to read the biographies of the most influential people in history\, like Martin Luther King or Mahatma Ghandi. Some people like novels that send chills down their spines\, from goth horror novels like Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” to Stephen King’s epistolary novel\, “Carrie”. Some prefer the classics\, like “Pride and Prejudice” or the “Old Man and the Sea”. \n\n\n\nBut regardless of the kind of books you like the most\, the indisputable truth is that the world would not be the same without books. Books have been educating and inspiring us for thousands of years\, so it should go without saying that World Book Day is a more than a well-deserved holiday. \n\n\n\nBooks are more than simple pieces of paper with words on them (or\, in the case of digital books\, a bunch of pixels on a screen). They’re a door into another world\, whether that’s one full of fiction and imagination or a factual world that teaches you incredible new things. World Book Day is all about celebrating the wonderful power of books and the joy of reading. It’s especially meant to help encourage a love of reading in children\, but people of all ages can recognize and celebrate the day. \n\n\n\nWorld Book Day has a strong connection with schools\, and it’s used worldwide to allow school children to engage with reading and their favorite books. It’s not just a day to indulge a love of books\, but also a day where children and young people can gain access to books. \n\n\n\nHistory of World Book Day\n\n\n\nBooks did not always look the way they do today\, with their glossy covers and creamy pages. When writing systems were invented in ancient civilizations thousands of years ago\, clay tablets were used. Later\, humanity moved on to using papyrus. In the 3rd century\, the Chinese were the first to make something that resembled today’s books in that they consisted of numerous thick\, bamboo pages sewn together. Then\, in the mid-15th century\, Johannes Gutenberg’s printing press brought books into the industrial age\, making them readily available to anyone who wanted to read them. It is thanks to than ingenious invention that we are all able to enjoy the works of Shakespeare\, Tolstoy and many others in the comfort of our own homes today. \n\n\n\nWorld Book Day was created on April 23rd\, 1995\, by the United Nations Educational\, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The connection between that date and books\, however\, was made in Spain in 1923\, as it is the anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega\, prominent Spanish Chronicler. \n\n\n\nThere were a few ideas for the day of the year that World Book Day should be held. Originally\, Vicente Clavel Andrés\, a Valencian writer\, suggested that the day should be on a day that honored the author Miguel de Cervantes. This would be either his birthday\, October 7\, or his death date\, April 23. The latter date is the one that was chosen because it was also the date that William Shakespeare died and when Inca Garcilaso de la Vega died too. In fact\, several other prominent authors have also died on April 23 – perhaps authors should be wary of this date! \n\n\n\nIn some countries\, World Book Day actually takes place on other days of the year\, despite the fact that the international event was created by UNESCO. For example\, Sweden\, the United Kingdom\, and Ireland all celebrate their own World Book Day events on a different day. However\, the international day has been held on the same day each year since it began in 1995.

SUMMARY:National Middle Name Day
DESCRIPTION:When a child is born\, their parents take the time to carefully consider what name to give them. Parents debate over names and how their choice could affect their children during their lives. It’s certainly a big responsibility to give someone a name! \n\n\n\nWill the name they pick cause schoolyard teasing or is it more likely to set them up for success? It is all in the hands of the parents. Sometimes\, children think that the name they were given at birth is not quite what they would have liked if they had been allowed to choose for themselves. This may be especially true of those dreaded middle names. \n\n\n\nBut\, on National Middle Name Pride Day\, there is no reason to hide in the shadows! Each person can proudly share their middle name and let the love that their parents put into choosing it show. \n\n\n\nHistory of National Middle Name Pride Day\n\n\n\nThe background of middle names comes with some interesting context. Historians do not know a firm date when middle names first appeared in English-speaking countries\, but records indicate that the practice may have been used in higher class\, wealthy families first. When it comes to those of royal and noble birth\, it is known that the tradition was in effect at least as early as the 17th Century\, by looking at the Stuart pretender\, James Francis Edward Stuart. \n\n\n\nIn fact\, at the time\, it was common for those of high birth to have many names–sometimes several middle names. This is still the practice in modern royal families. For instance\, Queen Elizabeth II of England was christened Elizabeth Alexandra Mary. And those are lovely middle names that she can be proud of! \n\n\n\nConsidering that different countries and cultures have varying traditions when it comes to the naming of children\, it can be fun to use this day to get to know friends and co-workers better–by finding out their traditions around middle names. \n\n\n\nThe great thing is that this may reveal a lot more than just their middle names\, but the traditions of cultures that are new and unique. In some countries\, a middle name may be assigned as a reflection of the mother’s maiden name. In other cultures\, the middle name is used as a sign of honor for a close relative or friend. Other people choose middle names because they simply like the sound of the name\, the meaning or significance behind the name\, or even the acronym that is created when the initials are spelled out! \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate Middle Name Day\n\n\n\nA variety of fun activities can be created in celebration of Middle Name Day\, including the following: \n\n\n\nLearn More About It\n\n\n\nWhether you’ve liked it from childhood or not\, this can be a great day to wear your middle name proudly! Proclaim it from the mountain tops… ok maybe not that\, but don’t be afraid to share it! Learn to like the way that it sounds. \n\n\n\nSome people who don’t know much about their middle names may want to take time to ask their parents why they chose your middle name\, if you haven’t heard the story before. This is a great exercise because it may be possible to learn about more than just the name\, but stories of the family members who lived in generations past. \n\n\n\nCelebrate with Food\n\n\n\nEvery celebration worth doing deserves to have some fun and food in it! Cookies proudly proclaiming children’s\, friends’\, or other family member’s middle names can be a yummy way to celebrate the day. For those who aren’t into baking on their own\, it’s easy to purchase a cake at a local bakery and have the middle names of the family piped onto it with icing. \n\n\n\nShow Middle Name Pride with Balloons\n\n\n\nFor a special decorative touch to celebrate National Middle Name Pride Day\, try out some giant foil balloons that are made in the shape of letters. These can be found at discount stores\, party stores or online. While it might be easy to spell out certain middle names (like Ann or Sue)\, certain other middle names (such as Maximillian or Bartholemew!) might get a bit expensive and overwhelming. \n\n\n\nMake it a Teaching Moment\n\n\n\nFor those who have children of their own who have been given middle names\, this is a great day to take time to share with them why their names were chosen particularly for them and what the history or the meaning of their middle name is. There is never a bad day to share these types of memories with each other! \n\n\n\nHost a Middle Name Game at Work\n\n\n\nOver a lunch break at work\, make a game of National Middle Name Pride Day with a little contest. Have everyone share their middle name and give out prizes for different categories. These categories could be almost anything\, but here are some ideas: \n\n\n\nLongest middle nameStrangest middle nameMost boring middle nameMost fitting middle nameBest acronym from initials made including a middle name\n\n\n\nEither have one person judge or let everyone vote on each category. Then\, be sure to provide silly prizes to issue to the winners. Certainly even the people who don’t “win” can enjoy the fun that comes from celebrating middle names! \n\n\n\nBe Proud!\n\n\n\nNo matter if people are of noble or common birth\, their name and what family history it carries with it should never be a source of embarrassment. A person’s parents gave them their middle name out of love and affection. This is the ideal day to take time to embrace that love and come around to finding pride in that name (even if it was never particularly appreciated in the past). \n\n\n\nFor those who are feeling that their name just can’t see the light of day\, that’s okay! A great idea can be to spend some time with a favorite search engine. Many people might be surprised to find some truly unique ones gifted to the who’s who of Hollywood! After looking at those\, you can truly enjoy Middle Name Day!

SUMMARY:National No Smoking Day
DESCRIPTION:https://www.nami.org/About-Mental-Illness/Common-with-Mental-Illness/Smoking?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA1-6sBhAoEiwArqlGPgPU9jdXP8wKIc9xxpZsEWse6woJVlxoI-2FR0kBR9ehpCm9SUE_XhoC9wIQAvD_BwE \n\n\n\nFor those who smoke\, or for those who love someone who smokes cigarettes\, this day is certainly an important one that impacts the health\, quality of life\, and even the duration of a person’s life. Most people know that cigarettes are highly addictive and harmful to the person who smokes them\, as well as causing problems for the people around them. But that knowledge doesn’t always make it easier to stop! \n\n\n\nNational No Smoking Day aims to bring awareness to the dangers of this pervasive addiction. The day tries to spotlight resources that are available to help people decide to try and quit\, trying to offer encouragement and support in a useful and non-judgmental way. \n\n\n\nHistory of National No Smoking Day\n\n\n\nNational No Smoking Day started out a few decades ago\, in 1984\, and has grown in size and scope since that time. This day is celebrated in communities across the world\, with folks trying to educate more people every year on the struggles and dangers of smoking. Each year there is a new short theme that can be used in advertising and media to help get the word out and expand the reach. \n\n\n\nOne such campaign that many people may be able to remember was used in 2010 was “Break Free”. This theme was used with images of broken cigarettes encouraging smokers to try to break the chains of tobacco addiction. \n\n\n\nSome people might wonder why it is so important to have a day set aside for this. But\, as time has passed and research has advanced over the last few decades\, it has become even more clear how terribly dangerous smoking actually is. There are toxins in cigarettes that have the power to cause many different forms of cancer\, from the mouth to the lungs\, as well as more unexpected places such as the liver\, stomach\, kidneys and even urinary bladder. \n\n\n\nWhat is also important to know is that\, while it may be a personal choice to smoke or not to smoke\, when one smokes near another person -or even a pet – the second-hand smoke is just as dangerous to them. So\, in some ways\, it really isn’t just a personal decision. \n\n\n\nThe protection of people who do not want to be affected by second-hand smoke has led to new laws in most communities that ban smoking in most public spaces. This is just one more reason for a person to get involved with National No Smoking Day! \n\n\n\nHow to Observe National No Smoking Day\n\n\n\nGetting involved with this important day is a great way to make an impact on the people around you and your community. Try out some of these ideas for observing National No Smoking Day: \n\n\n\nGet Ready to Stop Smoking\n\n\n\nThe best possible way to observe National No Smoking Day as a smoker is to seriously consider whether it is time to take the opportunity to choose to quit. It may not be easy but it is clearly worth it as there is so much hope to improve your health– within just hours and days of stopping\, with even more benefits over long periods of time! \n\n\n\nOf course\, like anything having to do with health and fitness\, it is wise to consult a physician for advice on the course of action that is best for each one personally. The great news is that there are many options to support a person once they have made the choice to quit smoking. \n\n\n\nFor those who aren’t ready to dive in and quit smoking for good\, the organizers of National No Smoking Day encourage participants to stop using tobacco for at least 24 hours of National No Smoking Day. Even just not smoking for one day can make a big difference and lead a smoker down the road to cutting back or even quitting completely. \n\n\n\nLearn the Facts About Smoking \n\n\n\nEveryone knows that smoking is “bad”\, but perhaps some people aren’t aware of exactly how bad or to what extent it can cause damage. While they’re not meant to be used to bash people over the head\, these facts might be useful in learning a bit more about the whats and whys behind National No Smoking Day: \n\n\n\nSmoking is the leading cause of preventable death worldwide. Tobacco is the cause of more than 7 million deaths every single year\, and it is growing so that it will probably be 8 million deaths each year by 2030 if this pattern does not change. On average\, a person who smokes will die 10 years earlier than a person who does not smoke.Smoking also takes a toll on the economy of many nations. In the United States alone\, the total economic cost of smoking each year is estimated to be around $300 billion\, including health care\, lost wages\, and premature death due for smokers as well as those exposed to secondhand smoke.\n\n\n\nEncourage a Friend or Family Member to Quit Smoking\n\n\n\nNational No Smoking Day day can be observed by those who are concerned about someone they love. It is important to not put too much pressure on them or shame them into it. It’s a difficult road and they need support and encouragement\, not judgment. \n\n\n\nInstead\, it is best to try to offer them access to resources that can be helpful. There are support groups\, over-the-counter cessation aids\, health care programs and phone numbers for experts who can just talk them through the difficult times. Most insurance companies have programs available now as well and would be happy to help a smoker quit this habit and become a healthier person. Be supportive in offering resources and you may find that this year will be the year that your loved one is ready to quit. \n\n\n\nCelebrate Those Who Have Already Stopped Smoking\n\n\n\nThere is another way to celebrate this day–and it is one that needs to be made a big deal of. And that is giving plenty of acknowledgment and accolades for those who have quit! It is a great time to let them know you are proud of them and their continued status as a non-smoker.

SUMMARY:National Good Samaritan Day
DESCRIPTION:Throughout history\, the term Good Samaritan has been associated with the idea of helping a stranger or doing a good deed for someone\, especially a person who can’t necessarily pay it back. And that’s what National Good Samaritan Day is all about!  \n\n\n\nHistory of National Good Samaritan Day\n\n\n\nThe history of National Good Samaritan Day can be traced back around 2\,000 years to a parable that was told by Jesus in the Gospel of Luke in the Bible. It tells the story of a traveler (presumed to be Jewish) who is attacked and left on the side of the road. After two different “righteous” or “religious” men passed by and did not help\, a Samaritan finally stopped. At this time\, Samaritans and Jewish people would have been sworn enemies\, but this particular person still took pity on the man and went far out of his way to help. \n\n\n\nAlthough the story has roots in Christian tradition\, the concept of being a Good Samaritan transcends all religious and racial boundaries. It reminds everyone that humans are humans and\, as such\, deserve the honor and dignity of assistance and help – even when it might be inconvenient. \n\n\n\nNational Good Samaritan Day is observed on this day in honor of a woman named Catherine “Kitty” Genovese. On March 13\, 1964\, Genovese was murdered near her New York City home and\, although more than 30 people saw something or heard her screams\, no one stepped forward to help or call the police. \n\n\n\nThe purpose behind National Good Samaritan Day is to encourage community and mutual support. The hope is that more people will pay attention and intervene when someone is in need\, not only on this day but all throughout the year! \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate National Good Samaritan Day\n\n\n\nEvery day is a great day to be helpful but National Good Samaritan Day offers a special opportunity and focus. Try out some of these ideas for celebrating the day: \n\n\n\nDevelop a Habit of Kindness\n\n\n\nPeople who live each day expectantly looking to help someone in need are definitely celebrating National Good Samaritan Day all the time! Consider this event as a reminder to live out of compassion and kindness\, showing help and support for others whenever possible. From smiling more to being patient when someone cuts in line\, from sharing generously to practicing forgiveness\, a habit of kindness can manifest itself in all sorts of ways. \n\n\n\nThank a Good Samaritan\n\n\n\nThose who have ever been helped by someone when they were in need know what a difference it can make\, whether it just makes the day a bit happier or truly saves a life. Spend some time on Good Samaritan Day thinking about ways that other people in life have been helpful and perhaps reach out to remind them what a difference they made! \n\n\n\nRead About the Good Samaritan\n\n\n\nThose who are interested in learning more about the history of where this story came from might want to read it in honor of National Good Samaritan Day. Perhaps do some online research to find out more about the cultural context and consider the ways some people used racism and discrimination to avoid being kind to another human.

SUMMARY:World Kidney Day
DESCRIPTION:Are your kidneys ok? This seems to be the question that the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF). These are the two organizations to create World Kidney Day. Education\, evaluation\, and donation are themes that tend to be stressed over the years since its creation. \n\n\n\nHistory of World Kidney Day\n\n\n\nWorld Kidney Day was first celebrated in 2006 asking the above question – Are Your Kidneys Ok? The idea that there is great need to educate the world about the importance of kidney health\, and reduce the impact of kidney disease and other health conditions associated with them\, is what pushed the ISN and IFKF to team up and make a difference. \n\n\n\nThe goal that was established was to raise awareness of what our kidneys do and what can happen when they are not working properly. They strive to teach the risk factors and bring screening to those at risk for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Prevention is the main overall goal by teaching communities how to keep their risk factors as low as possible. \n\n\n\nRespectfully\, World Kidney Day is also about donation. Transplant professionals use the day to educate people on the need for organ donation. This is a decision that if left until the last moment can be difficult and painful for families. But individuals can easily make their wishes known and in the United States can identify this on their identification. These donations can bring the joy of life back to someone who is suffering from kidney disease. \n\n\n\nHow to celebrate World Kidney Day\n\n\n\nAcross the world\, celebrations take different forms\, from free screenings to Zumba marathons! Is your community planning an event? Celebrate by attending and learning more! Do you know what your personal risk for Chronic Kidney Disease is? If not\, use this reminder to make an appointment to see your physician and find out. \n\n\n\nAccording to worldkidneyday.org\, there are 8 golden rules for kidney health. \n\n\n\nKeep regular control of your blood sugar. About 50% of people with Diabetes will develop kidney damage. Make sure you are doing all you can to stay in control!Keep fit and active. Staying active helps in many areas to keep your kidneys healthy as well as promotes a positive mood and weight loss.Eat healthily and keep your weight in check. Making good food choices will go hand in hand with staying active to reduce weight and encourage good health.Water\, water\, water! Keeping hydrated is good for your skin as well as your kidneys. Staying hydrated flushes the toxins out of the kidneys and reduces the chance of kidney stones. No Smoking! Smoking is bad in many ways\, but for the kidneys\, the chance of developing cancer in them increases by 50% for smokers.Stay away from over-the-counter medicine for chronic issues. Many over-the-counter medicines such as ibuprofen can harm your kidneys if taken regularly. It is ok to take for emergencies\, but see a physician if you are having chronic pain for options that will not cause harm.\n\n\n\nCelebrate World Kidney Day by learning more about your kidneys and how to keep them healthy and happy for years to come!

SUMMARY:World Sleep Day
DESCRIPTION:https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/types-of-mental-health-problems/sleep-problems/about-sleep-and-mental-health/ \n\n\n\nSleep may seem like such a normal aspect of life that it might seem silly to even talk about it! It can be one of the most banal\, underrated aspects of people’s lives. But for those who have recurring sleep problems\, getting enough sleep can be a real challenge and affect everything else in life. \n\n\n\nWorld Sleep Day aims to consider and aid those who have sleep problems. It is useful for educating people all over the world about the importance of sleep\, as well as changing the way people view and experience sleep by giving them valuable resources to help them in their daily lives. \n\n\n\nHistory of World Sleep Day\n\n\n\nHosted since 2008\, World Sleep Day is a global awareness act that celebrates sleep and aims to help those with serious sleep problems. Celebrated on the Friday before Spring Vernal Equinox of each year\, this holiday has an annual 155 events held across the world and is participated by over 70 countries. \n\n\n\nWorld Sleep Day focuses on various issues related to sleep\, sleep medicine\, education about sleep\, and the social effects that sleep deprivation can have on everyday life. From mild to severe\, sleep difficulties are a modern problem that may have the ability to hijack people’s entire lives if not kept in check. \n\n\n\nAccording to the American Sleep Association\, over 50 to 70 million people have some type of sleeping disorder\, over 25 million have sleep apnea\, and the most commonly reported sleep problem is insomnia (the inability to sleep at all or for a full night). \n\n\n\nOrganized by the World Sleep Day Committee of the World Sleep Society\, this day began with a group of health professionals and providers who were studying in the area of sleep medicine and sleep research. \n\n\n\nWorld Sleep Day aims to bring people together\, whether everyday people or healthcare providers\, to discuss sleep problems\, help find solutions\, and prevent sleep problems for those who don’t yet have them. \n\n\n\nDoctors such as Liborio Parrino\, MD\, Italy and Antonio Culebras\, MD\, were the first co-chair members of World Sleep Day and aided in creating the World Sleep Society\, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping fund research for ever-pervading sleep problems faced in the world today. \n\n\n\nThe World Sleep Society works with various news organizations to help them spread the word and report about the effects sleep can have on day-to-day life. It’s all about getting the word out and letting people know where to find help! \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate World Sleep Day\n\n\n\nEnjoying World Sleep Day can be super easy! Just making some efforts to move toward healthy sleep can change life for the better. Consider these ways to give an intentional nod to the day: \n\n\n\nTake a Nap\n\n\n\nCelebrate World Sleep Day by doing the one thing everyone loves at the end of each day; sleep! Take the day off and sleep as long as you want. Or\, in a less extreme manner\, try grabbing a 20 minute power nap during a lunch break at work. If you feel refreshed afterward\, it means that you needed it. \n\n\n\nPractice Sleep Hygiene\n\n\n\nBecause children so naturally fall asleep when they are tired\, adults may simply assume they should be able to do the same thing. But they often cannot! Just like taking care of the physical body (by showering or brushing the teeth)\, a person’s sleep routine may need a little bit of extra attention and care. \n\n\n\nThe process of sleep hygiene allows the brain and body to quiet themselves and prepare for a good night of sleep. This includes healthy habits and relaxation routines such as: \n\n\n\nFixed bedtime and wake time: the circadian rhythms of the body work better when bedtime and wake time is the same each dayExercise: people who don’t have enough physical activity during the day may struggle to sleep at night\, so be sure to take a brisk walk or practice other cardio several hours before bedtimeCut back on caffeine: as a stimulant\, caffeine can make the mind and body active\, so it’s best to avoid coffee\, tea or other caffeinated beverages at least 6 hour prior to bedtimeRoom temperature: keep the bedroom between 60 and 67 degrees F or 16-19 degrees CGive 30 minutes for bedtime routine: instead of expecting to fall asleep right away\, calculate half an hour to wind down with soft music\, light stretching or reading a boring bookDim the lights: tell the brain it’s time to sleep by lowering the lightsUnplug: At least 60 minutes prior to bedtime\, turn off the computer\, television\, smartphone or other devices as the blue lights can interfere with good sleep rhythmsPractice meditation: deep breathing and mindfulness practices before bed can help the brain to release the stress of the day which sets the stage for better sleep\n\n\n\nDownload a Sleep App\n\n\n\nThose who are looking for help with their sleep can use a smartphone application to help out. Slumber\, Calm\, Sleep Cycle\, and Reflectly are all committed to helping either soothe the brain toward sleep or to measure the sleeping rhythms during the night. \n\n\n\nParticipate in a Sleep Awareness Event\n\n\n\nDonate to a sleep fundraiser on this day to help support more research into disorders such as sleep apnea and insomnia. Check for events in your local area or find an online sleeping foundation to get connected with. \n\n\n\nBuy a New Mattress\n\n\n\nMany people struggle with sleep problems due simply to a poor support structure during sleep. Use World Sleep Day as an excuse to see if buying a new bed would make a difference in sleep quality. Some higher end mattresses (such as Sleep Number) make it possible to customize a mattress based on each individual’s needs. \n\n\n\nTalk to a Sleep Professional\n\n\n\nFor those who believe they have a sleep problem\, it is important to take the time to talk to a sleep professional. See if they would recommend a sleep test to make a diagnosis and ask what kind of sleep hygiene suggestions they have. \n\n\n\nShare this day on social media using the hashtag #WorldSleepDay and let your friends\, family\, and followers know how essential sleep can be for people everywhere.

SUMMARY:National Awkward Moment's Day
DESCRIPTION:Awkward moments happen all the time – and to some folks more than others! For anyone who has ever wished that the ground would open up and swallow them\, National Awkward Moments Day is a celebration of all of those ridiculous moments that are filled with bumbling\, bungling and tons of embarrassment. \n\n\n\nFrom walking out of a public toilet with toilet paper stuck to a shoe\, to realizing you’ve been speaking to someone every day for a year and don’t actually know their name\, life is full of these painful and loathsome experiences. Or for those who get easily tongue tied and say the wrong thing\, National Awkward Moments Day is perfect for not only embracing this debacle\, but celebrating it! \n\n\n\nHistory of National Awkward Moments Day\n\n\n\nAlthough no one has taken credit for the founding of National Awkward Moments Day (perhaps that would be too awkward!)\, many people have commented on how interesting it is that National Awkward Moments Day is celebrated right on the heels of St Patrick’s day. Is it possible that some awkward moments might occur during a walk of shame the next morning while dressed as a leprechaun? \n\n\n\nNational Awkward Moments Day does boast a mascot though: the awkward turtle. The phenomenon of the awkward turtle was first documented around 2005. This two-handed gesture that silently indicates extreme embarrassment without having to actually say any words. \n\n\n\nThe awkward turtle gesture seems to have originated from sign language and grew in use throughout pop culture in the late 2000s. And who knows? Maybe there’s a possibility that the awkward turtle was an impetus for the creation of National Awkward Moments Day. \n\n\n\nAwkward moments can certainly be responsible for turning the cheeks red or causing the desire to disappear into thin air. But\, on National Awkward Moments Day\, it’s the time to embrace and show appreciation for all of that awkwardness. \n\n\n\nAfter all\, to be human is to also sometimes be awkward. Even the most put-together of people have their moments where they fall up the stairs (like Jennifer Lawrence on the red carpet) or have a “wardrobe malfunction” in front of millions of fans (à la J Lo at the Super Bowl). \n\n\n\nSo\, if anything awkward happens on National Awkward Moments Day\, be sure to see the humor of the situation\, and have a good laugh about it\, before moving on to the next one! \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate National Awkward Moments Day\n\n\n\nCelebrate National Awkward Moments Day by getting started with some of these ideas: \n\n\n\nLaugh at Your Own Awkwardness\n\n\n\nOne way to enjoy National Awkward Moments Day is to normalize being awkward. After all\, not everyone can be cool as a cucumber all of the time! If something weird happens on this day\, laugh it off and embrace it. Or\, even better\, share some of those stories of awkward moments with friends\, coworkers or family members so that everyone can get a good laugh! \n\n\n\nWatch a Movie with Awkward Characters\n\n\n\nPerhaps one way to celebrate National Awkward Moments Day might be to be reminded that there are other awkward people in the world too! Check out some of these films that feature awkward protagonists or other characters: \n\n\n\nLars and the Real Girl (2007). It’s hard to imagine Ryan Gosling being awkward\, but this movie does it when his character strikes up a relationship with…a doll. It’s Kind of a Funny Story (2010). Various awkward characters emerge in this story about a teenage boy who checks himself into a psychiatric ward for the weekend. The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012). The term “wallflower” has been used to name those people who stand by the wall at a gathering but never get asked to dance\, and this movie addresses some of these awkward teenage moments.Sixteen Candles (1984). Featuring a girl who longs for a date with a dream boy\, this movie offers a glimpse into some of the best cast of awkward teenage characters\, including those played by Joan Cusack\, Anthony Michael Hall and Gedde Watanabe.

SUMMARY:International Day of Happiness
DESCRIPTION:Happiness on a personal level can make any day better and add great value to anyone’s life! But what if happiness was cherished and appreciated not just locally but on an international scale? How could that make changes in life\, such as the way the economy works or how societies function? \n\n\n\nInternational Day of Happiness aims to celebrate the happiness that exists all over the world\, even if it is measured in different ways. This day is meant to be inspiring to people to spread positivity\, whether big or small\, with others and encouraging each nation to prioritize the happiness of its citizens. \n\n\n\nAs one of the key pursuits of human life\, it is no surprise that there has been endless philosophizing and discussion on the subject of happiness for thousands of years. For instance\, the Ancient Greek philosopher\, Aristotle\, argued that happiness is the only thing that humans seek “in and of itself.” This idea maintains that all of the other wants and desires that humans pursue ultimately contribute to happiness\, making happiness itself the end goal. \n\n\n\nAnd much later\, in the 18th and 19th centuries\, utilitarians such as Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill developed an ethical theory that even saw virtuous acts as those which maximize happiness and decrease suffering. The idea may have been that even acting selflessly was a bit selfish because it made people feel happy! \n\n\n\nNow\, International Day of Happiness argues that being happy can bring a fairer and more balanced approach to economic growth in particular\, such that it foregrounds sustainable development\, tackles poverty and increases personal and social well being. But as well as on a societal level\, this day can certainly also be used to celebrate happiness that exists on a personal and individual level! \n\n\n\nHistory of International Day of Happiness\n\n\n\nInternational Day of Happiness has a truly global history regarding its creation. Back in 2011\, the idea was introduced to the United Nations by the advisor Jayme Illien. Illien also founded the United Nations New Economic Paradigm project and ‘happytalism’\, which aim to change the way nations approach economic growth by focusing on ‘happytalism’ over capitalism. \n\n\n\nThe General Assembly of the United Nations agreed with the proposal and officially founded International Day of Happiness in July of 2012\, with the occasion first being observed in 2013. The celebration acknowledges how important and desirable happiness is to people everywhere and how essential it is that happiness is incorporated into public policy. \n\n\n\nInternational Day of Happiness is celebrated and hosted by various organizations\, including Action for Happiness\, Happinessday.org and the United Nations. Through these websites and via social media\, people can share inspirational stories about what makes them happy\, how their happiness contributes to those around them and how it can pave the way towards a better future.

SUMMARY:National Memory Day
DESCRIPTION:Uh…what day is it again? Oh yes\, that’s right – it’s National Memory Day! (Sometimes it can be hard to remember.) \n\n\n\nAlthough many people believe that they simply are born with a bad memory\, a great deal of research has shown that the memory parts of the brain can be stretched and exercised just like the body. So those who want to improve their memories can do so in a variety of ways. \n\n\n\nFitting closely with the beginning of spring\, National Memory Day might be the perfect day to celebrate the amazing gift of memory – before you forget and the day is over. If forgetting seems likely\, go ahead and tie a string around that finger to be sure to remember to celebrate this day! \n\n\n\nHistory of National Memory Day\n\n\n\nThe discipline of studying human memory dates back at least 2000 years. Aristotle was a philosopher who believed that humans are born with a mind like a blank slate and memories are imprinted on them in a way similar to making an impression on wax. This philosophy leans toward the “nurture” side of the “nature vs. nurture” question. And scientists have been trying to learn about memory ever since. \n\n\n\nThe brain is a complex and mysterious organ that is extremely difficult to study. However\, modern technology has brought significant advances to the understanding of the processes of memory. A study has revealed that the brain goes through three memory processes: encoding\, storage\, and retrieval. So in order to be able to recall memories\, all three processes must be working well! \n\n\n\nWhile it might be hard to believe that it starts that young\, scientific research has shown that the first memories in human development begin in the womb\, even before a baby is born. And although the capacity of the human memory is considered to be basically limitless\, most people cannot recall memories that happened to them prior to the age of 3-4. Some scientists believe it’s not that the memories aren’t there\, it’s simply that they are unable to be recalled. \n\n\n\nNational Memory Day is the perfect time to enjoy a variety of memory-related activities–and to think about someone who might struggle with memory a little bit more. \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate National Memory Day\n\n\n\nFor those who remember to make a little extra effort and plan ahead\, celebrating National Memory Day can be a load of fun whether alone or with a group of friends or family members. Clever and fun ideas for celebrating the day might include: \n\n\n\nGet a Good Night of Sleep\n\n\n\nMost people don’t realize that getting enough sleep is a critical factor in the ability to have a sharp memory. People who have healthy sleep lives are more effectively able to store and retrieve long-term memories. \n\n\n\nFor those who struggle to sleep\, try practicing healthy sleep hygiene habits such as cutting out caffeine\, dimming the lights\, turning off electronic devices at least an hour before bedtime\, reading a boring book\, and going to bed/waking up at the same time every day. \n\n\n\nWatch Finding Dory\n\n\n\nA spinoff of the first Disney Pixar film\, Finding Nemo\, this animated movie features the voice of Ellen Degeneres as Dory\, Nemo’s memory-impaired friend. Dory\, the adorably forgetful blue-eyed tang fish can only keep her thoughts straight for about 10 seconds\, and then she has to start over. \n\n\n\nIn the story\, she does somehow know that she was separated from her parents when she was younger. So\, Dory and her friends\, Nemo and Marlin\, set out on an adventure to find her parents and\, ultimately\, release them from captivity. It’s a delightful look at friendship and tenacity\, even when forgetfulness gets in the way! \n\n\n\nMake Memories for the Future\n\n\n\nSpend the day with people you love\, doing things you love\, and capture it in your mind and heart to keep for the future. For those who want to keep a creative record of the day\, it can be fun to make a memory book or scrapbook. \n\n\n\nPeople who are interested in looking back from the future might consider creating a time capsule. Fill it with interesting things that represent this current season of life\, what’s important or interesting about today\, friends and family who are a part of life. Then bury it in a special place. Choose a time in the future (maybe 10 or 20 years from now) when it will be time to go back and dig it up. The memories will be fascinating! \n\n\n\nCreate a National Memory Day Playlist\n\n\n\nThrow a few songs about the memory onto a Spotify playlist as a soundtrack for sharing with friends\, family\, or coworkers: \n\n\n\nMemory (1981) by Elaine Paige\, from the musical CatsMemories (2019) by Maroon FiveI Will Remember You (1993) by Sarah McLachlanPhotograph (2005) by NickelbackSeptember (Do You Remember?) (1978) by Earth\, Wind\, and FireWhen We Were Young (2016) by Adele\n\n\n\nParticipate in Memory Games\n\n\n\nLike any other part of the physical body\, the brain and memory need exercise in order to stay in tip-top shape. Memory loss is less likely to occur in old age for those who work hard at exercising their minds. \n\n\n\nWhy not try one of those on-line brain games to test out how well your memory skills function? Or devise your own test at work – cover your eyes and try to remember all the items on your colleague’s desk. \n\n\n\nOr what about trying to remember the lines from your favorite TV show’s theme song from back when you were a child? Some experts say that even simply doing a sudoku or crossword puzzle regularly can help keep the memory sharp and the brain in its best working order. \n\n\n\nEat a Memory-Boosting Meal\n\n\n\nCertain foods are known to be excellent helpers for boosting memory and brainpower. Try cooking with new recipes or ordering in foods that contain these special ingredients: \n\n\n\nFish — with Omega 3 Fatty AcidsCoffee — with Caffeine and AntioxidantsBlueberries — with AntioxidantsTurmeric and Curcumin — with Antioxidants and helps grow new brain cellsBroccoli — with Vitamin KDark Chocolate — with Flavonoids\n\n\n\nAlthough not a food\, Ginkgo Biloba is a health supplement that has been shown to slow down or even prevent age-related memory problems\, memory loss\, or other types of mild cognitive impairment. \n\n\n\nSupport an Important Charity\n\n\n\nOn a more serious note\, it is no secret how devastating Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia are to both its sufferers and their loved ones. Why not mark this day in a meaningful way by supporting one of the great charities that help in these areas? \n\n\n\nThe Alzheimer’s Foundation is one of many organizations that help with this difficult illness that is deeply connected with short-term memory loss. The organization provides a memory screening program and tests\, caregiving resources\, scholarships\, and various events for people affected by the disease as well as their families and caregivers. \n\n\n\nOr\, it might be thoughtful to go visit someone you know who is affected by memory loss. They may not remember it\, but you will – and your world will be a little better for practicing this kindness.

SUMMARY:As Young As You Feel Day
DESCRIPTION:As Young As You Feel Day is a day for losing your inhibitions. So forget worrying about what other people think\, whether they think you are too old\, and do whatever it is that makes you feel young!  \n\n\n\nHistory of As Young As You Feel Day\n\n\n\nIf you are in good health\, but feel restricted by how you are expected to behave\, then As Young As You Feel Day is the time to rebel! People can only live this life once and As Young As You Feel Day is a good reminder to everyone that age is a number\, and certainly should not be used to stop people from enjoying themselves. \n\n\n\nFounded by Thomas and Ruth Roy of Wellcat Holidays\, As Young As You Feel Day was established to offer an opportunity for people to forget about what’s age appropriate and do whatever they like or want. The day is celebrated each year just after the spring solstice\, which is a great time for anyone to feel a bit of youthful spring in their step! \n\n\n\nPerhaps\, instead of enlisting some beauty regimens that might try to defy aging\, or engaging in some Ponce de Leon activities that search for a fountain of youth\, As Young As You Feel Day could be spent simply enjoying whatever age a person is now. Embrace the day and celebrate that today is the youngest that any person will ever be in their lives. So enjoy it! \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate As Young As You Feel Day\n\n\n\nShow the world that you’re as young as you feel by celebrating this day with some youthful ideas such as these: \n\n\n\nAct as Young As You Feel\n\n\n\nYou can celebrate As Young As You Feel Day by having that outrageous hairstyle you wanted when you were a teenager. Or dig out those clothes you wore when you were younger – they may even fit\, too. If you have teenagers you can ‘get down with the kids’ on As Young As You Feel Day – and shock them for a change. \n\n\n\nPractice Feeling Younger\n\n\n\nWhile it’s impossible for a person to actually make themselves younger\, it is possible to practice feeling younger! Just participate in a mindset that is a bit younger and filled with the joy of life. Try some of these ideas: \n\n\n\nSmile More. It’s not true that frowning uses more muscles than smiling\, but it may be true that people who smile more tend to be happier!Learn Something New. People who keep their minds in good shape are bound to feel younger\, so take a class\, read a book on a new subject or just listen to a podcast to learn something new.Enjoy a Pet. Folks who have pets are often more relaxed and emotionally healthy. So adopt a cat\, dog or even a bird to embrace feeling younger.\n\n\n\nWatch A Movie About an Age Swap\n\n\n\nSeveral different films have been created over the years to tell the stories of adults who learned to embrace life by spending a little time being a kid again. Perhaps As Young As You Feel Day would be a great time to enjoy one of these delightful age swapping stories: \n\n\n\nFreaky Friday (1976 and 2003). This film\, and its later remake\, is based on the 1972 children’s novel by Mary Rogers where a daughter and her mother switch bodies for a time.Little (2019). This delightful film tells the tale of a woman who is overworked and has a chance at being a kid again.Big (1988). This film was a breakthrough role for Tom Hanks\, where he plays a 12-year old who is trapped in the body of a grown man.13 Going on 30 (2004). Jennifer Garner plays an interesting young woman in this story that has a similar theme to “Big” from fifteen years prior\, but starring a female lead instead.

SUMMARY:National Cleaning Week
DESCRIPTION:https://www.verywellmind.com/how-mental-health-and-cleaning-are-connected-5097496 \n\n\n\nThe concept of keeping things clean is likely as old as human beings. Maybe it dates back to the stone age when cave-moms were picking up their children’s socks! Imagine something like Wilma Flintstone sweeping the floor with her baby elephant vacuum cleaner or a washing machine that is actually a pelican. \n\n\n\nSure\, these are fictional ideas taken from a funny animated cartoon series\, but the idea of cleaning is certainly no joke. Especially when it comes to National Cleaning Week! \n\n\n\nHistory of National Cleaning Week\n\n\n\nNational Cleaning Week got its start when it was founded by the International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA)\, which is a worldwide group of support for those in the cleaning industry. \n\n\n\nISSA believes that maintaining clean spaces has a positive impact on public health\, the natural environment and even the economy\, so founding National Cleaning Week was an expression of this. Whether celebrated by cleaning professionals\, companies or individuals\, this event acts as an excellent reminder to take stock of what is important and work to create a clean and sparkly world. \n\n\n\nNational Cleaning Week takes place at the end of March\, which is a perfect time for it. Springtime has traditionally been an especially good time to do some cleaning\, ridding the house of cobwebs and dust. And if it’s warm enough or sunny\, it might even be a good idea to open the windows and get some fresh air into the place! \n\n\n\nThose who are involved in professional cleaning services can gain access to activities\, seminars and a number of other events where the focus is on cleaning. Celebrate the “value of clean”\, honor professionals in the cleaning industry and raise awareness in the public through the observance of National Cleaning Week. \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate National Cleaning Week\n\n\n\nFind some satisfaction in enjoying a clean space by celebrating National Cleaning Week with some of these ideas: \n\n\n\nDo Some Cleaning Up\n\n\n\nOne reason that National Cleaning Week is so inspiring is that it is a great opportunity to set aside a bit of time to focus on cleaning. And for those who need accountability\, perhaps it would be a good idea to encourage some friends\, family members or coworkers to participate as well. Make it fun by creating a competition for chores such as sweeping\, dusting\, or even cleaning out the refrigerator or closets. \n\n\n\nHire a Professional Cleaner\n\n\n\nThose who don’t really have time to clean or can’t seem to keep up with all the chores shouldn’t be ashamed about it. Life gets super busy and who wants to spend it cleaning? Perhaps National Cleaning Week would be the ideal time to make that call or schedule that appointment with a professional cleaner who will get the house cleaned regularly\, whether on a weekly or monthly basis. Don’t forget to hire a cleaner who is trustworthy and\, ideally\, someone who is bonded or with a company so their work is assured and safe.

SUMMARY:National Make Up Your Own Holiday
DESCRIPTION:If you could create your holiday what would it look like? Create a holiday and share with others. \n\n\n\nAs you’ve probably noticed there seems to be a holiday for just about everything\, from the culturally important ones like Christmas and Hannukah to the purely secular and silly like Office Supply Day. \n\n\n\nIf you’ve ever wondered whether you can make your own holiday then the answer is an unequivocal YES\, and Make Up Your Own Holiday Day was the holiday created to encourage people to do so! (See\, we told you there was a holiday for just about everything). \n\n\n\nHistory of Make Up Your Own Holiday Day\n\n\n\nUnsurprisingly the origin of Make Up Your Own Holiday Day can be traced to Wellcat and its founders Ruth and Thomas Roy. These amazing people have created more than seventy holidays of their own\, all of which have been posted on their website and are included in Chase’s Calendar of Events published by McGraw-Hill. \n\n\n\nAfter creating so many holidays of their own and sharing so much joy with the world it is perhaps unsurprising that they decided it was time to invite others to join in the fun! \n\n\n\nWhile many holidays have their roots in religious and culturally important events\, it’s certain that at some point they got their start because someone decided to start celebrating something. \n\n\n\nThat celebration was shared with others\, who in turn shared it with others\, and an entire tradition was started simply because someone was looking for an excuse to have a little fun. Make Up Your Own Holiday Day invites everyone to share their excitement about their favorite things with others. \n\n\n\nHolidays can be created to celebrate movies\, foods\, arts and crafts\, medical conditions and much more\, and can serve as an opportunity to raise awareness\, generate funds for charity\, and generally bring people together about your favorite topic. \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate Make Up Your Own Holiday Day\n\n\n\nIt all starts with deciding what you want your holiday to be about\, and that’s something you can do as an individual or as part of a group. Is there something that’s important to you or a group of people you’re a part of that doesn’t get enough recognition and you think it’s high time it had a holiday? \n\n\n\nMake Up Your Own Holiday Day is your chance to start making other people aware of this important cause. Don’t let that thing that’s important to you continue to live in obscurity\, create a holiday of your very own and start giving it the attention it deserv

SUMMARY:Quirky County Music Song Day
DESCRIPTION:If you’re one of those people who is already rocking out to classics such as “I Still Miss You Baby\, But My Aim’s Gettin’ Better” or “You’re the Reason Our Kids Are So Ugly”\, then chances are you’re already well on the way to the perfect celebration of Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day. \n\n\n\nHistory of Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day\n\n\n\nCountry music is an American genre that got its start in the southern parts of the US in the 1920s when it was born out of blues and folk music. And though country music certainly has its own sound\, it also has its own themes about which the songs are written. While the themes might be about love\, lost love and work\, the genre has moved into some goofy and laughable ideas. \n\n\n\nWhen Johnny Cash wrote the lyrics to “Flushed From the Bathroom of Your Heart” in 1968\, it’s hard to know if The Man in Black was just being silly or if he was trying to launch a trend in country music. Since that time\, country music lyrics seem to have gotten more and more ludicrous\, and this day is all about celebrating this fact. \n\n\n\nQuirky Country Music Song Titles Day was founded by Thomas and Ruth Roy of Wellcat Holidays. The day has taken hold and gotten more popular each year – just for the fun of it! \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day\n\n\n\nQuirky Country Music Song Titles Day is one of those days that is meant to simply enjoy some peculiar and off-the-wall notions. Have fun with some of these ideas for celebrating: \n\n\n\nListen to Some Quirky Country Music Songs\n\n\n\nHave tons of fun celebrating Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day by creating a playlist filled with ridiculous choices that keep the listener laughing\, if not singing along to some even more preposterous lyrics! Try making a playlist on Spotify or Apple Music and then see if it’s possible to share the list with friends and allow them to add their own versions of silly song titles to it. \n\n\n\nHere are a few quirky country music song titles to get started with: \n\n\n\nDirty Old Egg Sucking Dog by Johnny Cash (1966)Drop Kick Me Jesus (Through the Goalposts of Life) by Bobby Bare (1976)It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels by Kitty Wells (1952)You Can’t Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd by Roger Miller (1965)\n\n\n\nThrow a Quirky Country Music Song Theme Party\n\n\n\nInvite friends and family members around to a gathering that is specifically themed around wacky country music songs. Encourage guests to dress up as their favorite country music stars and know at least one of their song titles. For instance\, they could dress up like Brad Paisley in honor of his song\, “I’d Like to Check You for Ticks”. \n\n\n\nServe country music themed snacks\, like cookies in the shape of music notes or a cake decorated to look like a guitar in honor of Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day. And\, of course\, the most important activity of the evening is to listen to all of the quirky country music and perhaps even watch some of the videos on YouTube to get the full effect!

SUMMARY:March Madness
DESCRIPTION:For anyone interested in sports\, and more specifically basketball\, March Madness is that time of the year between the months of March and April where 68 college basketball teams play against each other for the title of national champion. Hosted by the US’ National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) this yearly event gathers the best college basketball teams for both the men and the women’s Division I and has them participate in a single-elimination tournament that is televised across the nation. Even though the NBA championship is one of the top sports events in the United States\, the NCAA tournament has also become one of the most watched competitions in the country. \n\n\n\nHistory of March Madness\n\n\n\nThe NCAA basketball tournament is the result of Ohio State University coach Harold Olsen’s efforts to establish a postseason national basketball competition. The tournament kicked-off in 1939\, originally involving only 8 teams of the men’s first division (the first tournament ever was won by Ohio.) By 1951\, the number of participating teams had doubled\, continuously expanding until it reached its current sum of 68 teams in 1985. NCAA Division I women’s basketball tournament began in 1982\, and follows the same format as its male counterpart. \n\n\n\nWhy is it called ‘March Madness’?\n\n\n\nHowever\, it wasn’t until the eighties that the name “March Madness” began to be associated with the NCAA basketball competition\, all thanks to American sportscaster Brent Musberger. The term was first seen in a 1939 essay about the fans of Illinois’ high school basketball tournament written by coach Henry V. Porter. However\, Musberger’s use of the phrase during a coverage of the 1982 NCAA event caused it to become permanently associated with this competition. Since 1987\, the song “One Shining Moment” (written by singer-songwriter David Barrett) has been the March Madness tournament’s official anthem\, played at the end of every event and accompanying a montage of the competition’s best moments. \n\n\n\nHow does the NCAA tournament work?\n\n\n\nTo enter the tournament\, 32 teams have to qualify by winning their conference title (meaning their regional leagues\,) which gives them an automatic bid\, while the remaining 36 are elected as at-large bids by the NCAA’s Selection Committee. Once all competitors are chosen\, they are split into four geographical regions (east\, south\, midwest\, west) of at least 16 teams each—which become known as brackets. All teams within a bracket are then ranked from 1 to 16\, with the lowest-ranked team playing against the highest one. \n\n\n\nOver the course of three weeks\, teams play against each other and must make it through the different rounds of their bracket (commonly referred to as “The First Four\,” “Round of 32” “Sweet Sixteen\,” “Elite Eight\,” and “The Final Four\,” according to the remaining number of teams in each stage) until they reach the finals or get eliminated on one of the previous six stages. One of the biggest draws for fans of this competition are the attempts to predict the winner by filling out their own brackets. Upsets can\, of course\, occur\, which generally render the perfect bracket impossible to predict but make the games all the more fun and exciting. \n\n\n\nSince the beginning of the tournament in 1939\, only five schools have participated in more than half of the events to date. The teams with the highest numbers of attendance are Kentucky (58\,) North Carolina (50\,) Kansas (48\,) UCLA (47) and Duke (43.) Furthermore\, these teams are the top five winning teams in the history of the NCAA tournament\, with UCLA holding the most titles in the men’s division. For the women’s tournament\, UConn has the biggest number of titles\, having won 11 championships total. \n\n\n\nHow to celebrate March Madness?\n\n\n\nThere are many ways to celebrate March Madness. Those who are avid basketball fans can get tickets to a game if the teams are playing near them. Also\, they can have fun filling out the brackets with their predictions and see whether they come true or not—and if they really want to lean into the competitive spirit\, they can turn it into a game to see who gets the most rights. Other ways to celebrate involve getting together with friends or family and throwing a viewing party with lots of food and drinks!

SUMMARY:Good Friday - Share Your Favorite Easter Holiday Activities and Memories
DESCRIPTION:A Christian holiday that commemorates the day that Jesus Christ was crucified\, Good Friday is observed during Holy Week\, the week leading up to Easter Sunday. Good Friday is a day of mourning and contemplation\, and many Christian churches hold special services on this day. It’s called “Good Friday” because it is believed that Jesus’ death and resurrection brought about the salvation of humanity. The phrase “good” in this context does not mean “happy” or “pleasurable\,” but rather “holy” or “sacred.” \n\n\n\nHistory of Good Friday\n\n\n\nThe origins of Good Friday can be traced back to the time of Jesus Christ\, who was a Jewish teacher and religious leader who lived in the first century AD. According to the New Testament of the Bible\, Jesus was arrested and tried by the Roman authorities on charges of blasphemy and sedition. He was then sentenced to be crucified\, a form of execution that involved nailing or binding the victim to a cross and leaving them to die. \n\n\n\nThe event of Jesus’ death and burial is described in detail in the New Testament\, and it is this event that is commemorated on Good Friday. In the centuries since Jesus’ death\, Good Friday has become an important day of observance for Christians around the world. The day is often marked with fasting\, prayer\, and acts of charity. In some traditions\, Good Friday is also a day of silence\, as a way to reflect on the suffering of Jesus. \n\n\n\nHow to Observe Good Friday\n\n\n\nGood Friday is observed in different ways by different Christian denominations and communities. Some common traditions include: \n\n\n\nFasting: Many Christians observe Good Friday as a day of fasting\, or abstaining from certain types of food or drink\, as a way to remember Jesus’ suffering and death.Prayer: Good Friday is a day of prayer and reflection\, and many Christians participate in special services or devotions\, such as the Stations of the Cross\, which follow the events of Jesus on the day of his crucifixion..Acts of charity: Some Christians choose to perform acts of charity or service on Good Friday\, as a way to honor Jesus’ message of love and compassion.Processions: In some countries\, Good Friday is marked with processions\, in which people carry statues or images of Jesus on the cross through the streets.Worship services: Many churches hold special worship services on Good Friday\, during which the story of Jesus’ death is retold and remembered through music\, prayer\, and the reading of scripture.\n\n\n\nIt is important to note that the way Good Friday is observed can vary widely from place to place and from one Christian tradition to another. Some Christian communities may place more emphasis on one aspect of the day’s observances\, while others may focus on different traditions.
