Spaying and neutering our pets\, including our cats\, is vital to their health and keeping the stray population down. \n\n\n\nAnother goal of awareness campaigns like this one is to encourage adoptions. Instead of purchasing a kitten from a pet store\, adopt from a shelter. Many kittens are born in shelters. While their ages may vary\, all kittens do become cats. \n\n\n\nAdoption Tips\n\n\n\nFollow the shelter’s guidelines and keep these tips in mind when adopting: \n\n\n\n\nThere’s an application process. Read through it and understand it. The guidelines are for the safety of the animals\, the employees\, and you.\n\n\n\nAsk questions. It’s important there’s an understanding between you and the shelter. Most shelters have volunteers and paid employees. However\, they work on a very tight budget. Please don’t expect any special accommodations.\n\n\n\nA good shelter will place the interests of the animal first. They want the cat to have a successful placement. Some animals have anxiety while others get along with anyone and every type of animal.\n\n\n\n\n\nConsider the size of your home and where you live – an apartment or house.\n\n\n\nWho lives with you? That includes people and pets – does everyone get along and does anyone have allergies?\n\n\n\nHow much time do you have for a pet?\n\n\n\nSo you’ve spotted the kitten for you. Be sure to make several visits to the shelter. Play with the kitten. Spend time grooming them. See how the kitten reacts to other cats. Learn the kitten’s behavior.\n\n\n\nMaybe Fuzzy Bear has health issues or doesn’t get along with children. Perhaps another kitten gets along better with dogs. All these factors will be considered on your application.\n\n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL KITTEN DAY\n\n\n\nPlay with your kitten or bring her a new toy. Share a selfie with your kitten. DESCRIPTION:July 17th recognizes World Emoji Day and many of the world’s symbolic icons for digital calendars. Emoticons (emotion + icon) was developed as an expression of emotions in the cold hard texts that were devoid of them. \n\n\n\nEmoji\, a Japanese expression\, roughly means “picture word” and was created by Shigetaka Kurita in 1990. While working for the Japanese telecom company NTT Docomo\, Kurita would design these picture words as a feature on their pagers to make them more appealing to teens. \n\n\n\nThe release of the first iPhone by Apple in 2007 had an emoji keyboard embedded into the phone to nab the Japanese market. While not intended for U.S. users to find\, they did and quickly figured out how to use it. \n\n\n\nEvery year new emojis (both emoji and emojis are acceptable plural forms of the word) are developed. The emojipedia.org keeps track of all the emoji updates across all platforms and operating systems. Over 1800 emojis cover much more than just emotions. From transportation\, food\, an assortment of wild and domesticated animals to social platforms\, weather\, and bodily functions\, emojis virtually speak for themselves. \n\n\n\nWhen it comes to celebration emojis\, the designers created a variety to make sure we could express our excitement. Whether we celebrate the arrival of a new baby\, an anniversary\, or a birthday\, there’s something for every celebration. DESCRIPTION:National Disability Independence Day on July 26th commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26th\, 1990. \n\n\n\n#DisabilityIndependenceDay\n\n\n\nThe ADA provides protection from employment discrimination as well as better access to goods\, services\, and communications for people with disabilities. \n\n\n\nThe day not only celebrates the anniversary of the ADA but it also serves several other purposes. First\, the law first broke down barriers individuals with disabilities faced every day. It also marked a timeline of change that soon developed. Over time\, common barriers such as narrow doors and small bathroom stalls became accessible to wheelchairs. Other examples include braille signs and crosswalks for the vision impaired. The changes improved mobility and safety. \n\n\n\nBeyond structural changes\, the act motivated designers to enhanced technology. Often\, physical limitations restrict a person’s ability to access legal or health information. New assistive technologies make it possible to obtain the necessary information. \n\n\n\nAs accessibility improves\, the world continues to change in other ways. For example\, many of today’s brick and mortar businesses are ADA compliant. However\, more and more businesses switch to online versions. Those websites need to meet the needs to be accessible\, too. \n\n\n\nWith each advancement in technology\, designers need to incorporate multifunctional approaches to fit every ability. Celebrate the freedom the ADA inspires with forward-thinking design and technology.

National Mutt Day provides an excellent opportunity to find the perfect canine companion. Despite the name\, a mutt learns\, obeys and trains much like purebred animals. While their lineage cannot be traced and their features a bit murky\, their companionship will be faithful.   \n\n\n\nAccording to the ASPCA\, approximately 3.3 million dogs enter shelters every year. When these abandoned and often abused animals find their way to a shelter\, each one needs a forever home. Whether you know it or not\, their potential is limitless. Some of the benefits of adoption are often hidden. Human and canine both enjoy increased physical activity.  Another boost is social interaction through daily walks. While humans develop patience\, their four-legged companion learns to trust and new limits. For example\, as dogs explore the many scents of the human lifestyle\,  they usually discover shoes are off-limits. No matter the breed\, size or demeanor of the human\, er\, canine\, the shelter will take the time to find the right home for their animals. They schedule visits and have procedures in place to promote healthy adoptions for families and individuals. While some dogs experience injury or illness\, the shelters work with veterinarians to heal the animals before making them available for adoption. \n\n\n\nOf course\, shelters always welcome donations and volunteers. Dogs love walking\, playing and being loved even if they haven’t found their forever home.
