SUMMARY:What is Labor Day? Why do we celebrate it?
DESCRIPTION:Labor Day kicks off every first Monday of September with a blast of celebration. This special day is a lively tribute to workers across the United States. \n\n\n\nIt honors their hard work and the incredible strides made in American industry and society. Back in the late 19th century\, workers faced grueling conditions with long hours and minimal safety. \n\n\n\nTo combat this\, labor activists championed better working environments\, leading to the first parade in New York City on September 5\, 1882. \n\n\n\nThis movement paved the way for the creation of Labor Day. By 1894\, it became a national holiday\, symbolizing the resilience and achievements of the American workforce. \n\n\n\nLabor Day is more than just a day off; it reflects the strength and spirit of workers. For many\, it also signals the end of summer\, marking a transition back to school and the beginning of fall sports. \n\n\n\nThe day is celebrated with parades\, barbecues\, and various events\, showcasing the collective pride and joy of the nation’s labor force. \n\n\n\nHistory of Labor Day\n\n\n\nLabor Day’s story starts in the late 1800s\, a time of hard work and few protections for workers. Back then\, many people worked long days\, often in unsafe conditions. \n\n\n\nThey wanted change\, so they stood together\, asking for shorter hours and safer workplaces. Their efforts sparked the idea of a special day to honor workers’ contributions to society. \n\n\n\nThe first Labor Day parade took place in New York City on September 5\, 1882. Thousands of workers took a day off without pay to march for their rights. \n\n\n\nThis bold move caught the attention of people across the country. Soon\, states began to recognize Labor Day as a holiday. By 1894\, it became a national holiday in the United States\, celebrated on the first Monday of September each year. \n\n\n\nToday\, Labor Day is a time for picnics\, parades\, and spending time with family and friends. It marks the end of summer and the beginning of the school year for many. \n\n\n\nBut most importantly\, it reminds us of the strength and spirit of the workers who fought for better conditions. Their efforts made a lasting impact on American society.

SUMMARY:National Cheese Pizza Day - What's Your Favorite Pizza Restaurants
DESCRIPTION:Although most people are fond of piling all kinds of different toppings onto their favourite pizzas\, National Cheese Pizza Day takes things back to the basics by celebrating the humble cheese pizza pie in all of its glory. \n\n\n\nHistory of National Cheese Pizza Day\n\n\n\nBizarrely\, pizza – especially a basic cheese pizza – was regarded by its Italian inventors as a food for the lower classes who could not afford the luxury of meats. The ingredients are cheap\, requiring just flour\, yeast and water to make a basic dough\, with toppings often being picked from local trees and made from local milk. But even if it’s cheap\, the results are still absolutely delicious! \n\n\n\nIt is estimated that there are more than 70\,000 pizzerias across the United States\, demonstrating how pizza has been adopted into the national psyche\, and the industry is worth more than $40 billion dollars each year in the US. Even beyond that\, pizza is a well known dish that has made appearances all over the world. \n\n\n\nBut no matter where people are located on the map\, now is the time to celebrate National Cheese Pizza Day!

SUMMARY:National Food Bank Day
DESCRIPTION:National Food Bank Day on the first Friday in September encourages you to commit to contributing to the cause that believes no one should go to bed hungry. \n\n\n\n#NationalFoodBankDay\n\n\n\nHunger may be as close as your neighbor or your coworker in the next cubical. Bare cupboards and empty stomachs look just like yours and mine behind closed doors. \n\n\n\nFood banks across the country help some of the 42 million men\, women\, and children who struggle with putting food on the table. The reasons range from illness to job loss and a general change in circumstances – circumstances that can happen to anyone of us. \n\n\n\nFor parents struggling to make ends meet\, the ability to look their children in their eyes over a meal instead of into hungry eyes is a difference made by supporting food banks. Food banks fill the gap for those living on a meager budget. Many food banks offer educational opportunities that help people change their situation and begin anew. Often\, those who have benefited from the programs return to volunteer and contribute to the very food bank that staved off hunger to do the same for others. \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL FOOD BANK DAY\n\n\n\nHelp a neighbor\, a friend\, coworker or a child by making a donation. Volunteer at your local food bank. Food banks take nonperishable food items and cash donations every day. Check their needs list for the fresh items they are seeking. \n\n\n\nWhat are local resources for food banks in your area?

SUMMARY:World Suicide Prevention Day
DESCRIPTION:Every year on September 10th\, we mark World Suicide Prevention Day. This day shines a spotlight on a critical issue\, aiming to reduce the stigma around talking about suicide and to increase awareness about how we can prevent it. \n\n\n\nIt’s a day when organizations\, governments\, and people across the globe come together to send a clear message: actions can create hope\, and it’s possible to prevent suicide. \n\n\n\nThe importance of World Suicide Prevention Day lies in its goal to save lives. More than 703\,000 people die by suicide annually worldwide. \n\n\n\nThat’s about one person every 40 seconds. By dedicating a day to this cause\, we aim to spark conversations that can lead to meaningful change. It encourages us to reach out\, listen\, and support struggling people. We can all play a part in reducing these numbers through awareness and action. \n\n\n\nCelebrating this day is crucial because it reminds us of the power of hope and action. It shows that by coming together and speaking openly about mental health and suicide\, we can break down barriers. \n\n\n\nThe day encourages understanding\, compassion\, and support\, making it clear that suicide can be prevented with the right actions. It’s about creating a world where fewer people feel so alone that they consider suicide as their only option. \n\n\n\nHistory of World Suicide Prevention Day\n\n\n\nWorld Suicide Prevention Day began in 2003. It was an idea created together by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the World Health Organization (WHO). \n\n\n\nTheir main goal was to raise awareness about how suicide can be prevented. This special day happens every year on September 10th. It serves as a reminder that through action and understanding\, we can help reduce suicides around the world. \n\n\n\nThis day was established to make people aware of the issue of suicide and encourage open talk about it. It’s a day dedicated to educating everyone that suicide is preventable. \n\n\n\nBy bringing attention to this issue\, the founders hoped to reduce the number of suicides globally. Activities and events take place worldwide\, aiming to spread hope and show that there are ways to help those in need. \n\n\n\nThe history of World Suicide Prevention Day is a testament to global cooperation in tackling a serious and sensitive issue. Over the years\, it has grown to involve countries\, communities\, and individuals in a shared effort to offer support and understanding. \n\n\n\nEach year\, the day focuses on different themes to highlight various aspects of suicide prevention. It’s about creating an environment where people feel safe to speak about their struggles and seek help. \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate World Suicide Prevention Day\n\n\n\nUnleash Your Inner Advocate: How to Celebrate World Suicide Prevention Day\n\n\n\nBe a Conversation Starter: Grab a cozy corner at your favorite coffee shop or pick up the phone. Chatting about mental health can be a game-changer. Discuss the big and small ways everyone can contribute to making a positive impact. It’s all about making mental health chats as normal as discussing the weather! \n\n\n\nDigital Warrior: Transform your social media into a beacon of hope. Share stories\, facts\, and supportive messages using the hashtag #WSPD. It’s like throwing a digital lifeline out into the world. Who knows whose shore it might wash upon? \n\n\n\nWorkplace Wellness Whisperer: Why not turn your workplace into a sanctuary of support? Host a lunch-and-learn or a virtual meet-up focused on mental health. Remember\, a little bit of understanding goes a long way in creating a supportive work environment. \n\n\n\nListen Like a Pro: Master the art of listening. It’s not just about hearing words; it’s about understanding the silence in between. When someone shares their struggles\, show them that their feelings are valid and they’re not alone. Remember\, being a good listener is like being a lighthouse in someone’s stormy sea. \n\n\n\nEncourage the Journey: Nudge friends\, family\, or even strangers to seek help if they need it. Sometimes\, it takes a gentle push for someone to see the light at the end of their tunnel. And remember\, it’s okay to seek help\, whether chatting with a counselor or exploring therapies. \n\n\n\nCelebrating World Suicide Prevention Day isn’t just about marking a date on the calendar. It’s about sparking a movement\, changing perspectives\, and sprinkling a little bit of hope everywhere. \n\n\n\nSo\, go on\, wear your superhero cape for the day\, and remember\, every action\, no matter how small\, is a step towards a brighter tomorrow. \n\n\n\nIf you or a loved one is struggling there is help available. \n\n\n\nCall or text 988. SUMMARY:National Positive Thinking Day
DESCRIPTION:Positive Thinking Day is a time set aside each year to concentrate on all things positive. An American entrepreneur started this day in 2003 so that people could commemorate the many rewards that can be found in thinking positively. \n\n\n\nAs we are sure you have guessed from the name\, Positive Thinking Day is all about encouraging positive thoughts! On this date\, no negative thoughts are allowed! There are a lot of people in life who tend to view the negative in every situation\, rather than the positive. This isn’t always bad\, of course. It can mean that you are prepared for the worst and always pleasantly surprised. However\, too much negativity can be bad for the soul. In fact\, you can prolong your life with happiness and optimism. So\, on this date\, and other dates too\, try to encourage yourself to think positively. \n\n\n\nThere are a number of different techniques and approaches that you can use to try and be more of a positive thinker. This includes catching your thoughts and reframing them. If you find yourself having a negative reaction to something\, try to change your perspective. You need to be in that moment. Recognize that you are thinking about something from a negative standpoint. Take a few moments to think about the positives. You can even write them down. Remember\, the positives don’t have to be huge\, monumental wins. They can be small wins. A lot of small wins throughout the day can result in great positive thinking overall. Baby steps\, as they say! \n\n\n\nAnother way to be more of a positive thinker is to be aware of your automatic reactions. What is your natural and go-to way of reacting? Are you someone that will think their entire day is ruined if you spill your coffee over yourself on the way to work? Are you the type of person that will laugh it off and try to look on the bright side? Perhaps you have been drinking too much coffee anyway? Maybe it gives you the perfect excuse to go out and buy that shirt you have been wanting for quite some time now? If you fall into the negative category\, don’t be harsh on yourself. Instead\, be aware of this\, and think about how you can start changing this behavior so that you can be more positive on a day-to-day basis. It is also important to try and let go of your fear. Fear is what creates negativity. Think about it: at the bottom of your negative thoughts\, you will probably find fear. Let’s go back to the coffee example. What’s brought on those negative thoughts? Well\, it may be the fear that everyone is going to look at you because you have coffee on your shirt\, right? It may be the fear that you have wasted money on a coffee and it has gone to waste? \n\n\n\nWe all have different fears\, and so you need to focus on letting go of these fears. One way to do this is to close your eyes. Think about where the fear is coming from\, and then visualize all of the stress fading away. This does not work for everyone\, so spend some time researching different techniques and trying them out until you find something that works for you. From meditation to visualization; there are lots of different options.

SUMMARY:National Play Dough Day
DESCRIPTION:Just because we grow up doesn’t mean we have to stop having fun. Let your inner child out and play with play-doh! Get creative and have fun sculpting and mashing. \n\n\n\nPlay-Doh offers a delightful opportunity for anyone and everyone\, whether an actual child or someone who is simply young at heart. The key factor of National Play-Doh Day is to celebrate this iconic modeling clay that has made a huge impact on several generations in the United States and all over the globe.  \n\n\n\nHistory of National Play-Doh Day\n\n\n\nPlay-Doh was originally developed in the 1930’s\, not as a toy but as a product to be used for cleaning wallpaper! It was not until the 1950’s that this product was re-evaluated and marketed as a toy to be used for children as a tool for creativity and artistry. Originally only available in white\, Play-Doh was expanded to include the trademark vibrant colors of red\, blue and yellow. Another change that was made was the tubs\, which were originally sold by the gallon\, were reduced to a more child-sized version of eleven ounces. \n\n\n\nFast forward to modern times and more than two billion tubs of this enchanting putty have now been sold. If all that Play-Doh was rolled into a giant ball\, it would weigh as much as 2000 Statues of Liberty! At any given time\, there can be up to sixty colors of Play-Doh in production and the range is now huge\, including colors like Paradise Purple\, silver\, gold and even colors with sparkles or confetti. Some people like to keep the colors separate\, but those who are being super creative with mixing may find that their Play Doh could end up the color of mud! \n\n\n\nNational Play-Doh Day was first celebrated in 2006 when it was initiated by Hasbro\, the company behind this classic product. The day was first established in honor of the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the product. Now\, the day is observed annually to show appreciation for the freedom\, flexibility\, and somewhat easy cleanup that comes when kids (and adults!) enjoy being artistic with Play-Doh. \n\n\n\nIt’s time to celebrate National Play-Doh Day by releasing that inner child\, choosing some favorite colors and getting creative!

Brush up\, make some plans and get on board with the day by enjoying some of these activities: \n\n\n\nHost a Get Ready Day Event\n\n\n\nPlanning an event for Get Ready Day is a perfect way to bring attention to the day and the serious nature of being prepared for any type of crisis. This can be done by individuals to discuss suitable emergency plans with friends and families\, or organized by neighborhood watch groups\, community organizations\, government agencies like fire departments\, educational groups and many others. \n\n\n\nSchools\, colleges\, and community centers can also host talks to distribute literature and give advice on the best ways to prepare for potential dangers and disasters. \n\n\n\nCreate an Emergency Plan\n\n\n\nEach household\, school\, business and other location can respond better to disasters when they are prepared. Get Ready Day encourages families and small businesses to make sure they have emergency kits and evacuation plans\, as well as practicing drills for fires\, hurricanes\, tornadoes and more. \n\n\n\nTake this opportunity to pack an emergency kit with items like flashlights with extra batteries\, first aid supplies\, water\, shelf stable food items\, fire extinguisher\, whistle\, blankets\, radio\, face masks and various other items that would be useful in an emergency. Don’t forget to be prepared with items for pets or babies in families that have them. \n\n\n\nTake an Emergency Readiness Class\n\n\n\nOne super way to serve family members\, neighbors and the local community in honor of Get Ready Day might be to take a course that offers skills that can be used in an emergency. This might mean getting certified in CPR\, training for emergency evacuation procedures of large buildings\, active shooter response preparedness\, first aid training and a variety of other useful courses that could come in handy. \n\n\n\nSome communities offer these types of emergency preparedness courses for free through their fire department or other emergency group\, while others might need to pay a small fee to get certified in such a course. Online classes may also be a viable and simple option. \n\n\n\nAccess Online Tools for Get Ready Day Events\n\n\n\nThe APHA Get Ready website has a wealth of information to help those that are interested in hosting a Get Ready Day event in their community. This page includes helpful tools such as printable infographics\, social media share-ables\, and much more. Topics range from how to prepare for summer storms to best practices for hand washing and so much more.

SUMMARY:Emergency Services Day
DESCRIPTION:Emergency Services Day is a vibrant and important event that honors the dedicated individuals who work in emergency services. \n\n\n\nThis day celebrates the contributions of police officers\, firefighters\, paramedics\, and other emergency responders. These heroes often risk their lives to keep the public safe. It’s a day filled with activities and educational events\, highlighting the crucial work these professionals do daily. \n\n\n\nThe celebration focuses on educating the public about the responsible use of emergency services. It promotes essential life-saving skills\, encouraging people to learn first aid and emergency response techniques. \n\n\n\nThis knowledge can make communities safer\, as more individuals are equipped to handle emergencies before professionals arrive. \n\n\n\nThe day also highlights the various career and volunteer opportunities within emergency services\, inspiring people to consider these vital roles. \n\n\n\nHistory of Emergency Services Day\n\n\n\nEmergency Services Day began in 2016. A police officer named Tom Scholes-Fogg founded it. He saw the need to honor emergency workers in the UK\, and his efforts led to the first official celebration in 2018. This special day pays tribute to the work and sacrifices of emergency responders. \n\n\n\nThe UK Prime Minister officially backed the event in 2017\, highlighting its importance. It became a government-backed national day\, bringing more attention to the cause. Every year\, people across the UK participate in activities and educational events. \n\n\n\nThese events help the public understand and appreciate the roles of emergency workers. \n\n\n\nTom Scholes-Fogg’s idea quickly gained traction. The day now includes a moment of silence to honor those who died in the line of duty. \n\n\n\nIt also promotes careers and volunteering in emergency services. This initiative continues to grow\, fostering a deeper connection between the public and emergency responders. \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate Emergency Services Day\n\n\n\nHonoring fallen heroes is another significant aspect of Emergency Services Day. A moment of silence is observed to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. \n\n\n\nThis solemn tribute reminds us of the sacrifices made by emergency workers. The day also aims to build community appreciation for these services\, fostering support and recognition for the ongoing efforts of these dedicated individuals.

SUMMARY:International Day of Sign Languages
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that there are roughly 72 million deaf people around the world? This is a statistic from the World Federation of the Deaf. Collectively\, these people use over 300 different sign languages. A lot of people do not realize that sign languages are natural fully-fledged languages. \n\n\n\nWhile they may be different structurally to the spoken language\, they should be given just as much credit and importance. There is also an international sign language. This is used by deaf people when they are socializing and traveling\, as well as when they are in international meetings. \n\n\n\nIt is a pidgin type of sign language\, which is not as complicated as natural sign languages. International Day of Sign Languages celebrates all of these amazing sign languages\, paying homage to the incredible difference they have made to deaf people all around the world and increasing awareness about them. \n\n\n\nHistory Of Sign Languages\n\n\n\nSign languages are languages that convey meaning visually. It is not clear how many of these languages exist around the world. Generally\, each country has its own native sign language. In fact\, some countries have more than one. You may be interested to learn a bit more about the history of sign languages. These languages have been used throughout history by groups of deaf people. In fact\, one of the earliest written records of a sign language was in Plato’s Cratylus\, from 15th century BC. \n\n\n\nIn this\, Socrates says the following: \n\n\n\nIf we hadn’t a voice or a tongue\, and wanted to express things to one another\, wouldn’t we try to make signs by moving our hands\, head\, and the rest of our body\, just as dumb people do at present? \n\n\n\nThere is not a lot that is known about historical sign languages pre the 19th century. The information is limited to fingerspelling systems\, known as manual alphabets. These were invented so that words could be transferred from the spoken language to a sign language. The first manual alphabet is thought to have been developed by Pedro Ponce de Leon. \n\n\n\nThe first school for deaf children was founded in Paris by Abbé de l’Épée. This was in 1755\, and the most famous graduate from here is arguably Laurent Clerc. He went to the U.S. and set up the American School for the Deaf in 1817 with Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet. The school can be found in West Hartford\, Connecticut and it is actually the oldest permanent school for the deaf in the U.S.\, with around 174 students attending today. \n\n\n\nThe correlation between spoken languages and sign languages is complicated and differs depending on the country more than the language spoken. For example\, English is the dominant language in New Zealand\, Australia\, the UK\, Canada\, and the US. However\, American Sign Language (ASL)\, which is used in the United States and English-speaking Canada\, is actually derived from the French Sign Language. It has no relation to the New Zealand\, Australian\, and British Sign Language. At international events\, such as the meetings of the World Federation of the Deaf and Deaflympics\, International Sign is used. This used to be known as Gestuno. \n\n\n\nhttps://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+learn+american+sign+language&sca_esv=3669d01b023b8c41&sca_upv=1&sxsrf=ADLYWIIY8MpsysI-ldNtSWswlnvzj18PEw%3A1721103221815&source=hp&ei=dfOVZv2GMLTIkPIPvdeRsAs&iflsig=AL9hbdgAAAAAZpYBhZCD89v2I3iI6dyuh3yLKW-dkMeP&oq=how+to+learn+basic+sign+&gs_lp=Egdnd3Mtd2l6Ihhob3cgdG8gbGVhcm4gYmFzaWMgc2lnbiAqAggBMgUQABiABDIGEAAYFhgeMgYQABgWGB4yBhAAGBYYHjIGEAAYFhgeMgYQABgWGB4yBhAAGBYYHjIGEAAYFhgeMgYQABgWGB4yBhAAGBYYHkjpK1AAWOwXcAB4AJABAJgBkwKgAdIlqgEGMC4xNy43uAEByAEA-AEBmAIYoALeJsICChAjGIAEGCcYigXCAgQQIxgnwgIKEAAYgAQYQxiKBcICERAuGIAEGLEDGIMBGNQCGIoFwgIREC4YgAQYsQMY0QMYgwEYxwHCAg4QABiABBixAxiDARiKBcICDhAuGIAEGLEDGNEDGMcBwgILEC4YgAQYsQMYgwHCAgoQABiABBgUGIcCwgILEAAYgAQYkQIYigXCAggQABiABBixA8ICCBAuGIAEGLEDwgILEAAYgAQYhgMYigXCAggQABiiBBiJBcICCBAAGIAEGKIEmAMAkgcGMC4xNi44oAf8vwE&sclient=gws-wiz#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:e7db37dd\,vid:6w1ZDaE-whc\,st:0

SUMMARY:National Cooking Day - Share Your Favorite Fall Recipes
DESCRIPTION:We scurry and we scramble trying to make it through the day\, rushed for breakfast\, hurried for lunch (half an hour? That’s almost impossible!) and exhausted for dinner. Grabbing a quick bite\, running through the drive through\, getting a take out menu or delivery. But who has time to really cook a homemade meal from scratch these days? \n\n\n\nDo people even know how to cook anymore? This is certainly a sad state of affairs! \n\n\n\nNational Cooking Day reminds us that there’s nothing that quite matches the flavor\, comfort and experience that comes from a delicious home cooked meal. And it also helps us remember that learning how to cook is an important skill to enhance our health as well as passing various traditions on to friends and family. \n\n\n\nhttps://jennifermaune.com/fall-slow-cooker-recipes/

SUMMARY:National Situational Awareness Day
DESCRIPTION:On September 26th\, National Situational Awareness Day brings attention to personal safety. \n\n\n\n#NationalSituationalAwarenessDay\n\n\n\nSituational awareness is the foundation of one’s personal safety. It focuses on being aware and paying attention to your environment. Situational awareness also means mindfulness\, and developing it makes you more present in daily activities. In turn\, it also helps you make better decisions in all aspects of life. \n\n\n\nThis day highlights the importance of using situational awareness skills in everyday life to stay out of harm’s way. Harm may come in the form of walking in front of a moving car or that of an assailant. Both scenarios can be the result of distractions causing us to lose awareness of our surroundings. \n\n\n\nIn an instant\, a dangerous situation can develop. Being aware of a threat even a split second sooner may save a life. Awareness gives them time to act instead of reacting. The lack of or inadequate situational awareness is considered one of the primary factors in accidents attributed to human error. \n\n\n\nAlthough many parts of modern society lack situational awareness skills\, our ancestors used them to great utility to survive. For decades\, the military and law enforcement have taught it to their personnel. However\, situational awareness training is not exclusive to their training regimens. Most experts agree that situational awareness is the number one skill for the safety of everyone. \n\n\n\nIn World War I\, Oswald Boelke identified the concept of situational awareness. He realized ‘the importance of gaining an awareness of the enemy before the enemy gained a similar awareness and devised methods for accomplishing this.’ \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL SITUATIONAL AWARENESS DAY\n\n\n\nA great way to observe this important day is by discussing it with those around you. While you do\, you’ll be improving the safety of those you love. Be human again. Pay attention to the people and events happening around you more than you pay attention to modern-day. Another way to observe the day includes: \n\n\n\n\nTaking a situational awareness course.\n\n\n\nRead about personal safety and situational awareness.\n\n\n\nOffer a situational awareness program in your workplace.

SUMMARY:National Day of Forgiveness
DESCRIPTION:Forgiveness is a potent tool on a journey of spiritual\, mental\, emotional\, and physical health. That’s why on September 27th\, National Day of Forgiveness encourages us to develop realistic methods for incorporating forgiveness in our lives. \n\n\n\nThe act of forgiveness is powerful. But\, granting forgiveness is more than an act – it’s a process. Forgiveness teaches us about ourselves as much as it teaches us about others. Whether a person suffers from mental or emotional pain\, grief\, or trauma\, forgiveness can set us on a path of healing. Forgiveness can also develop into a practice that teaches us to value compassion\, kindness\, and love. \n\n\n\nMyths About Forgiveness\n\n\n\nForgiveness means different things to different people\, but there are myths associated with forgiveness. Forgiveness does not mean: \n\n\n\n\nContinuing a relationship.\n\n\n\nApproving the other person’s behavior.\n\n\n\nOne person wins\, and the other loses.\n\n\n\n\nThere is no requirement to continue a relationship with someone you forgive. Many relationships do not remain the same after forgiveness. Accepting that or choosing to let a relationship end also helps us heal. Though\, forgiveness can repair some relationships\, especially if the receiver understands that forgiveness does not condone the behavior. \n\n\n\nForgiveness sets us free and allows us to begin the process of healing. When we truly forgive\, it is easy(ier) to forget because what once plagued us is no longer wired the same in our neural network. We can remember if needed\, but after forgiveness\, the memory fades into the far distance only to be retrieved if needed for ‘relatability’ (or a story). Even then\, there is no “charge” associated with the memory anymore. \n\n\n\nForgiveness doesn’t always happen in an instant\, either\, though it can. A single verbal statement doesn’t complete the process. However\, over time and with willingness and some practice\, we can let go of our anger\, bitterness\, and resentment. Forgiveness is a decision. \n\n\n\nForgiveness Benefits\n\n\n\nWhile granting forgiveness may be challenging\, it comes with a wealth of benefits. During the process\, we may discover the person we need to forgive most is ourselves. Self-forgiveness is another healthy tool to learn. Thus\, National Day of Forgiveness also offers an opportunity to understand the benefits of forgiveness. \n\n\n\n\nForgiveness relieves stress. The stress we feel from anger\, resentment\, and bitterness lessens and even fades entirely. The burden of these feelings creates anxiety and stress that we no longer have to carry when we forgive.\n\n\n\nThe act of forgiveness helps us to close a wound. When we forgive\, we give ourselves permission to heal. There is freedom in healing.\n\n\n\nWhen we forgive\, we also give ourselves permission to stop living in the past. We focus less on the damaging feelings and begin to look forward to the future. When we detach from the heaviness\, anger\, pain\, and resentment\, we no longer allow the past to control us.\n\n\n\nForgiveness also benefits our physical health. Reduced anxiety and stress mean lower blood pressure\, a stronger heart\, and an improved immune system. It may also help reduce physical pain.\n\n\n\n\nReflecting on our ability to forgive ourselves leads to an ability to cope with difficult and traumatic situations. As a result\, we reap the benefits of mental and emotional wellbeing.  \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL DAY OF FORGIVENESS\n\n\n\nOn September 27th\, consider taking the path of forgiveness. Other ways of participating in National Day of Forgiveness include: \n\n\n\n\nDeveloping a plan of forgiveness.\n\n\n\nRead about forgiveness. We recommend The Pursuit of Forgiveness 2.0 by Melissa Reese\, The Gift of Forgiveness by Katherine Schwarzenegger\, Forgive & Forget; Healing the Hurts We Don’t Deserve by Lewis B. Smedes\, and Ho’oponopono: Your Path To True Forgiveness by Dr. Matt Jamesd\n\n\n\nForgive someone\, especially yourself.\n\n\n\nHeal a relationship.\n\n\n\nGive to an organization that speaks to you and promotes love and forgiveness. A couple of organizations that fit that description are the Choose Love Movement and the Boys & Girls Club of America.\n\n\n\nLearn about pragmatic forgiveness by visiting thepursuitofforgiveness.com
