SUMMARY:Pay Your Bills Week - Managing Finances
DESCRIPTION:Pay Your Bills Week serves as an important reminder for everyone to stay on top of their financial responsibilities. It’s a dedicated time to focus on clearing our dues and preventing financial pitfalls. \n\n\n\nThis week highlights the importance of timely bill payments\, which can greatly reduce stress and help maintain a healthy financial status. Celebrating this week is crucial because it emphasizes the significance of avoiding late fees and keeping a good credit score. \n\n\n\nLate payments can lead to additional charges and negatively impact your credit rating\, making it harder to access loans or get favorable interest rates in the future. By paying bills on time\, you can avoid these penalties and maintain a better financial profile. \n\n\n\nMoreover\, paying bills on time can bring peace of mind and financial freedom. Knowing that all dues are settled allows for better financial planning and reduces the risk of debt accumulation. \n\n\n\nPay Your Bills Week can also be seen as a form of self-care\, ensuring that you can manage your finances effectively without the looming anxiety of overdue bills. How to Celebrate Pay Your Bills WeekStay Organized \n\n\n\nFirst\, gather all bills and sort them by the due date. Use colorful folders or an app to track payments. Staying organized makes the process smooth and stress-free\, and this approach ensures everything is remembered.Set Up Automatic Payments \n\n\n\nSecond\, set up automatic payments to avoid missed deadlines. This step saves time and reduces the risk of late fees. Most banks and service providers offer this handy feature\, which is a real game-changer for busy folks.Review and Cut Costs \n\n\n\nThird\, all expenses must be reviewed\, and areas to cut costs must be identified. Are there any unused subscriptions? Cancel them! Lowering unnecessary spending helps manage finances better. Keep an eye on recurring charges.Reward Yourself \n\n\n\nFourth\, treat yourself after paying all bills on time. Enjoy a small reward\, like a favorite snack or a movie night. Positive reinforcement makes bill-paying a more pleasant task. It’s a win-win situation.Plan Ahead \n\n\n\nLastly\, plan for next month’s bills. Set reminders and mark calendars. Preparation prevents last-minute scrambles. Being proactive keeps financial stress at bay and ensures a smoother process in the future.

SUMMARY:Women's Heart Week Awareness
DESCRIPTION:https://www.heart.org/en/about-us/heart-attack-and-stroke-symptoms \n\n\n\nMany people think that heart disease is more of a problem for men\, but that simply is not true. Today\, in the United States\, heart disease is the #1 leading cause of death among women. So it makes sense that there should be some time dedicated to raising awareness about and focusing on the need for prevention as well as understanding of possible symptoms.  \n\n\n\nWomen’s Heart Week offers a full seven days to home in on the facts and encourage women to take steps that will help them live heart-healthy and heart-happy lives!History of Women’s Heart Week \n\n\n\nThe first celebration of Women’s Heart Week was organized by the Women’s Heart Foundation to coincide with Women’s Heart Health Month\, celebrated all throughout February. And February is a time when people are already thinking about love and “hearts” (after all\, it’s Valentine’s Day). While\, admittedly\, this is a slightly different kind of heart\, it still seems like the perfect time to draw attention to the issue of women’s heart health!  \n\n\n\nBecause heart disease can look a little different in women than in men\, diagnoses are often missed or symptoms are dismissed. Some women who have heart attacks are even told that their symptoms are all in their head and are sent home by a doctor – sometimes diagnosed with a mental illness instead. \n\n\n\nThis is why it is so vitally important for women to be educated about the signs and symptoms\, taking their heart health into their own hands and learning to advocate for themselves. Women’s Heart Week is just the time to do it!How to Celebrate Women’s Heart Week \n\n\n\nTake action against this #1 killer of men and women in the US by joining in with Women’s Heart Week using some of these ideas:Learn Signs and Symptoms of Heart Disease \n\n\n\nEvery woman should be armed with the information she needs to understand what might be going on in her own body\, including her heart. And Women’s Heart Week acts as an ideal spotlight to shine on the various signs and symptoms that women can know. \n\n\n\nWomen who are concerned about their heart health should see a healthcare professional. Here are some things to look for or be aware of: \n\n\n\n\nChest pain\, ache or heaviness\, called angina\n\n\n\nPain in the throat\, jaw or neck\n\n\n\nPain in the back or upper abdomen\n\n\n\nNausea\, vomiting\, fatigue\n\n\n\n\nConsider Some Facts About Women’s Heart HealthGet educated and share with others in person or on social media to improve education in honor of Women’s Heart Week. Get started with some of these important facts: \n\n\n\nStroke and heart disease can affect women of any age\, meaning every woman should know her personal history\, family history and risk factors \n\n\n\nAmong females aged 20 and older\, close to 45% (over 60 million) are living with some form of cardiovascular disease \n\n\n\nResearch has shown that only about half (56%) of women realize that cardiovascular disease is their number one killer \n\n\n\nHeart disease causes 1 in every 3 deaths each year\, more than all cancers combined

SUMMARY:National Send a Card to a Friend Day
DESCRIPTION:National Send A Card To A Friend Day on February 7th reminds us to send friendly cheer through the mail. We do that by sending a note or message on a card to the friends we hold dear. Throughout the year\, we often think about our friends. We wonder how they are\, miss them\, and remember fond memories of times shared. #SendACardToAFriendDay \n\n\n\nSending a card to someone for a variety of reasons dates back to ancient times. The Chinese would send elegantly designed messages as well as the Egyptians\, though on different types of paper. During the Rennaisance\, greeting cards gained popularity for specific holidays and events. Victorian times increased the use of the greeting card for Valentine’s Day\, Christmas\, birthdays\, and more.  \n\n\n\nWhile our more digital era may turn away from the flowery language of greeting cards\, a surprising 80 percent of adults still purchase them. While they may only make these purchases for special occasions and are more likely to include them with a gift when they’re attending an event\, they are purchasing. That said\, retailers continue to reduce their footprint in the greeting card aisle.  \n\n\n\nAll the facts would add up to a faster fading “Just Thinking of You” type of card. However nice it is to receive sweet text\, wouldn’t it be less of a chore to go to the mailbox if occasionally you found a notecard from a friend?  HOW TO OBSERVE SEND A CARD TO A FRIEND DAY \n\n\n\nSend a card to your friends. You can buy cards at a store\, or you can make them yourself. Whichever way you choose\, set aside a few minutes to write a short note or a long note in a card and send one to make a friend’s day! Use #SendACardToAFriendDay to post on social media.

SUMMARY:National Make a Friend Day
DESCRIPTION:Always observed on February 11th\, National Make A Friend Day is a fantastic opportunity to meet someone new and make a new friendship. Friends serve a vital role in everyone’s lives. They are one of life’s most valuable assets. \n\n\n\nNew friends can broaden our horizons by helping us to see new perspectives\, challenging us to try something different\, or connecting us to opportunities. Meeting new people can help sharpen our social skills and keep us from becoming lonely. While friends often share common backgrounds or experiences\, they certainly don’t have to have everything in common.  One of the simplest ways to make new friends is to explore your interests by taking a class or joining a club.HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL MAKE A FRIEND DAY \n\n\n\nMake a friend at work\, school\, in the community\, or just about anywhere. Introduce one friend to another. Give a shout-out to a friend who makes your life better. Invite someone you’d like to know better out for coffee or tea. Share your tips on how to make friends. Visit the National Day Calendar Classroom for fun friend-making projects. Read Celebration Spotlight where we make a friend with Fay Stout.

SUMMARY:Valentine's Day
DESCRIPTION:Valentine’s Day began as St. Valentine’s Day\, a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus. February 14th first became associated with romantic love during the High Middle Ages as the tradition of courtly love was then flourishing. During 18th century England\, this day evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers\, offering confectionery\, and sending Valentine cards.

SUMMARY:Random Acts of Kindness Day
DESCRIPTION:Each year on February 17th\, National Random Acts of Kindness Day grows in popularity. It is celebrated by individuals\, groups\, and organizations nationwide to encourage acts of kindness. The movement of Random Acts of Kindness inspires people every day. As a favorite celebration for many\, people everywhere are enjoying doing these acts of kindness. Not only do the acts of kindness bring joy to the receiver\, but they spread positive reactions to the giver\, too!    A Few Quotes of Kindness: \n\n\n\n\n“Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” (Mark Twain)\n\n\n\n“No act of kindness\, no matter how small\, is ever wasted.” (Aesop)\n\n\n\n“Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.” (Scott Adams)\n\n\n\n“Kind words and actions can seem so small\, but their effects are truly endless.” (Author Unknown) \n\n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS DAY \n\n\n\nShare your random acts of kindness using #RandomActsOfKindnessDay to post on social media. \n\n\n\nPay for the coffee or meal of the person in front of you in line. \n\n\n\nLeave a kind note for someone\, no explanation is needed. \n\n\n\nShare words of encouragement. You never know who might need them. \n\n\n\nPut your skills to work for someone in need. For example\, offer to create a résumé for someone seeking a new job. \n\n\n\nDrop off a load of groceries at the local food pantry. \n\n\n\nMail a “thinking of you” card to someone you’ve not to talk to in a while. \n\n\n\nOrder a bouquet of flowers to be delivered to anyone in the hospital. That means\, call the florist and tell them to pick a hospital or nursing home and deliver flowers to the person the front desk thinks needs it the most. SUMMARY:Cancer Prevention Week
DESCRIPTION:https://www.cancer.org/ \n\n\n\nEvery year\, millions of people all over the world are diagnosed with cancer\, and millions more may die from cancer. And although a cure for various forms of cancer is still being pursued\, one of the biggest factors in today’s world is the actions that can be taken to prevent cancer from happening – or at least detecting it early. \n\n\n\nSet some intention this year to participate in Cancer Prevention Action Week with activities that can be built into habits that will promote healthy lifestyles and possibly even prevent cancer! How to Celebrate Cancer Prevention Action Week \n\n\n\nShow some love to self\, family\, friends and the community by participating in and celebrating Cancer Prevention Action Week with some of these ideas:Cut Back on Processed Meats \n\n\n\nOne of the largest ways to help prevent bowel cancer is to cut back on eating meats that have been processed. This includes deli meats\, sausages\, bacon\, and other meats that are over-processed. In honor of Cancer Prevention Action Week\, begin the habit of substituting these processed foods with fresh meats or plant-based protein products that can supply the needed nutrition without the high risk.Stay Active \n\n\n\nA few different cancers can be connected with inactivity\, including colon cancer\, breast cancer\, and womb or endometrial cancer. This doesn’t mean it is necessary to start a high impact exercise routine\, but it’s more about just getting off the couch! In celebration of Cancer Prevention Action Week\, grab a friend and make a commitment to stay active with a brisk walk every day or some other fun activity that helps keep you moving.Get Cancer Screening Tests \n\n\n\nFrom getting moles looked at to having a regular mammogram\, cancer screening tests are an important part of being a healthy adult. Other cancers that can be screened for include colorectal cancer\, cervical cancer\, lung cancer\, prostate cancer and more. In honor of Cancer Prevention Action Week\, everyone can make an appointment with their general practitioner to find out what kind of cancers they need to be screened for\, related to their lifestyle\, gender\, family history and more.

SUMMARY:Play More Cards Day
DESCRIPTION:Share your favorite card game. \n\n\n\nhttps://anzmh.asn.au/blog/mental-health/the-psychological-benefits-of-playing-cards#:~:text=Games%20can%20be%20more%20than\,the%20mind%20sharp%20and%20active. \n\n\n\nCards get a bad rap sometimes—and true\, there are cards games that can be very addictive if not kept under control. But cards can also be the source of great entertainment for friends just who just want to hang out and spend some time together\, laughing an relaxing. \n\n\n\nPlaying friends for small sums of money can turn up the heat and makes things even more interesting. In general\, however\, playing cards s just fun\, and as with most fun things that relax us\, it’s typically a good idea to do more of them and let your brain take a break from the stress it’s used to for a change. This is where Play More Cards Day comes in.How to Celebrate Play More Cards Day \n\n\n\nThe simplest\, as well as the most fun way to celebrate this day\, is to\, in fact\, play more cards. Do you have a favorite card game? If not\, find out what you like best by trying out a few different card games.Play Cards with Friends and Family \n\n\n\nSome people find playing a card game in which you have no partner or team especially fun and challenging\, while others prefer the company of another teammate to help them out if they get in a fix\, like the Polish cards game Hola. If you’re a person who values peace and quiet above all other things\, playing solitaire with real cards as opposed to just clicking on them could prove entertaining.Play Different Card Games \n\n\n\nChoose whichever card game you want to play on this day\, the only requirement is that you have a good time. Another great way to make sure a party (even a small one) is a success is to have various foods to snack on. If you’re all to be touching cards\, it would probably be best of the snacks you choose was not too greasy so as not to dirty the cards.Enjoy Snacks with Cards \n\n\n\nWith baked chips becoming all the more popular compared to regular deep-fried chips\, that could turn out to be a much easier criterion to meet than it seems. And if all else fails\, you and your friends can simply take a break from the game to fill up on something tasty\, and them go right back to what you were doing. After all\, this day also falls on National Tortilla Chip Day!
