SUMMARY:Global Love Day
DESCRIPTION:If you’ve been depressed lately about how the world’s been looking\, then there’s a day made just for you to feel better. It’s called Global Love Day! It’s a day about giving love to yourself and spreading love out into the world. Want to know what this day is all about? Curious about who started this awesome\, love-filled day? Read more below and find out about how Global Love Day got started and what you can do to take part in it!  \n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate Global Love Day\n\n\n\nThe Love Foundation offers many ways for you to express love! Check out a few of these to get started with: \n\n\n\nFocus on Love\n\n\n\nOne suggestion for commemorating this day is to just simply be love and let that be the focus of your awareness throughout the day. \n\n\n\nShare Some Love\n\n\n\nThe glorious thing about showing love and affection is that everyone has their way of doing so. Some people might prefer lavish and public displays of affection\, just like you’d see in a cheesy ’80s movie. They believe that their love is so enormous that it is impossible to contain\, and the only way to show it off is to release it loud and proud for all to see! \n\n\n\nConversely\, others might choose more modest\, private avenues to show their love. Whether it’s writing a poem\, something that could be part of the Art\, Essay\, and Poetry Invitational held alongside Global Love Day\, or simply cooking a delicious meal for your loved one; there are always ways to show that you care.  \n\n\n\nHost a Global Love Day Party\n\n\n\nAnother way to celebrate is to host a gathering and connect with your community. You can host a party with your friends\, volunteer for an hour at an orphanage\, visit a retirement center\, or donate items to a local shelter.  \n\n\n\nThese ideas are crucial to continuing the traditions that Global Love Day has fostered\, nurtured\, and released into the world around them. No matter how you choose to celebrate Global Love Day\, you can spread some of this yourself. \n\n\n\nAttend Global Love Day Events\n\n\n\nJoin in with community events\, help out those less fortunate\, donate your time to making the world a better place. No matter where you go in the world\, there is always someone who could do with a little bit of love to brighten your day.  \n\n\n\nPractice Self Care\n\n\n\nOf course\, pouring too much from your own cup may not be beneficial for you\, so if you feel the need to\, don’t be afraid to indulge in some proper self-care however you best see fit. Some will crack a bottle of wine and watch a soppy movie\, others will go for a run\, and some will spend all night playing video games. The fantastic thing is that there is no wrong answer. \n\n\n\nSo\, if you feel like you’re ready for love\, make sure to get involved with Global Love Day and share your affection for everyone\, including yourself\, with the rest of the world around you.

SUMMARY:National Foster Care Day
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL FOSTER CARE DAY | First Tuesday in May – National Day Calendar \n\n\n\nNATIONAL FOSTER CARE DAY\n\n\n\nWe are raising our voices on the first Tuesday in May to celebrate National Foster Day and encourage everyone to wear blue in support for foster youth in the U.S. \n\n\n\n#FOSTERCAREBLUE\n\n\n\nAs we kick off Foster Care Month\, we are providing the platform to help repair a system that is plagued with shortages nationwide. National Foster Care Day shines a badly needed light on the foster care system. There is a nationwide shortage of foster parents. In addition\, stipends provided to foster care parents do no cover the essentials of a growing child. \n\n\n\n0:07 \n\n\n\n/ \n\n\n\n0:09 \n\n\n\nFEBRUARY 8\, 2025 | NATIONAL KITE FLYING DAY | NATIONAL BOY SCOUTS DAY | NATIONAL IOWA DAYFEBRUARY 8\, 2025 | NATIONAL KITE FLYING DAY | NATIONAL BOY SCOUTS DAY | NATIONAL IOWA DAY \n\n\n\nRead More \n\n\n\nEvery 2 minutes\, a new child is placed within the foster care system. Currently\, there are over 400\,000 children in the system at any given time. Many youth enter the foster care system with little to no belongings. Sadly\, many of these kids have also suffered the effects of abuse\, poverty\, neglect\, or even the death of their loved ones. The need for support services\, essential items\, and foster parents is high. Foster children have an uphill battle with startling statistics to overcome and need the support of our communities across the country. \n\n\n\nFoster Care Statistics\n\n\n\n\nAround 250\,00 children enter foster care each year.\n\n\n\nOnly 50% of youth in foster care graduate high school.\n\n\n\nFoster children suffer PTSD at more than twice the rate of U.S. war veterans.\n\n\n\nOne out of five foster children experience homelessness within 1 year of aging out of care.\n\n\n\nOne-third of young women in foster care are pregnant or parenting by the age of 17 or 18.\n\n\n\nMore than 70% of inmates incarcerated were in the foster care system at one point.\n\n\n\nStipends do not cover the essentials of a growing child.\n\n\n\n\nWhen you volunteer to become a court appointed special advocate or foster care parent you receive specialized training. You are not just providing a home for the child\, you are a representative providing a safe haven for abused and neglected children. \n\n\n\nNationwide\, there is a shortage of licensed foster homes. In the U.S. alone\, more than 100\,000 children waiting for a family to call home. Organizations like Ticket to Dream and Project Blue will help guide you on your journey to become a foster parent. Together\, you will make a difference to help foster children heal and grow to their full potential. \n\n\n\nRAISE AWARENESS\n\n\n\n\nVolunteer for your local foster care nonprofit to raise funding.\n\n\n\nOpen your hope to a foster child by becoming a foster parent.\n\n\n\nShare this page to increase awareness and interest in the foster care system.\n\n\n\nWear blue to show support for foster care youth.\n\n\n\nShare your stories about foster care using #FosterCareBlue on social media.\n\n\n\n\nNATIONAL FOSTER CARE DAY HISTORY\n\n\n\nNational Day Calendar in partnership with Ticket to Dream Foundation and the Project Blue\, collaborated to create National Foster Care Day. This National Day aims to increase awareness surrounding the needs of children in foster care\, the opportunities for volunteers\, and the benefits of improving the system.

SUMMARY:National Limerick Day
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL LIMERICK DAY – May 12 – National Day CalendarNATIONAL LIMERICK DAY \n\n\n\nObserved annually on May 12th\, National Limerick Day celebrates the birthday of English artist\, illustrator\, author\, and poet Edward Lear (May 12\, 1812 – Jan. 29\, 1888).  Lear is known mostly for his literary nonsense in poetry\, prose\, and limericks. \n\n\n\n#NationalLimerickDay\n\n\n\nThe day also celebrates the limerick poem. Limerick poems were popularized by Edward Lear’s book “Book of Nonsense” in 1846. A limerick is a very short\, humorous\, nonsense poem. Within a limerick\, there are five lines. The first two lines rhyme with the fifth line and the third and fourth line rhyme together. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFEBRUARY 8\, 2025 | NATIONAL KITE FLYING DAY | NATIONAL BOY SCOUTS DAY | NATIONAL IOWA DAYFEBRUARY 8\, 2025 | NATIONAL KITE FLYING DAY | NATIONAL BOY SCOUTS DAY | NATIONAL IOWA DAY \n\n\n\nRead More \n\n\n\nThe Limerick also has a particular rhythm which is officially described as anapestictrimeter.  \n\n\n\nTHERE WAS A YOUNG LADYBy Edward Lear \n\n\n\nThere was a Young Lady whose chinResembled the point of a pin;So she had it made sharp\, and purchased a harp\,And played several tunes with her chin. \n\n\n\nWhile Lear is credited with popularizing the Limerick\, the poetry style existed long before the publication of his book. Even so\, the Limerick celebrates fun turns of phrase\, rhythm\, and humor in short form. It also plays with words and peoples’ expectations. \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL LIMERICK DAY\n\n\n\nEnter a Limerick contest with a poem of your own. Read and share your favorite Limericks using #NationalLimerickDay to post on social media. If you don’t have a favorite\, try reading Looney Limericks compiled by Frank Jacobs. \n\n\n\nYou can also visit the National Day Calendar Classroom for projects to help you Celebrate Every Day! \n\n\n\nNATIONAL LIMERICK DAY HISTORY\n\n\n\nWithin our research\, we were unable to find the creator of this poetry day. However\, the day has been observed since at least 1984.

SUMMARY:National Juice Slush Day
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL JUICE SLUSH DAY | Third Wednesday in May – National Day Calendar \n\n\n\nNATIONAL JUICE SLUSH DAY | Third WEDNESDAY IN MAY\n\n\n\nOn the third Wednesday in May\, National Juice Slush Day celebrates the icy delight that has come to be known as frozen juice slush. \n\n\n\n#NationalJuiceSlushDay\n\n\n\nA juice slush is an ice-based drink comprising of 100% fruit juice. As a frozen drink\, basic flavors of strawberry\, lime\, grape and cherry seem to be the most common available. But\, you can savor just about any flavor of juice you can get your hands on during National Juice Slush Day! \n\n\n\nHistorically\, Royal courts from ages past used to bring down freshly fallen snow from mountain tops and spread crushed berries and mashed fruit on top. Little has changed. Billions of servings later the refreshing taste of icy fruit slush still thrills all ages\, especially on National Juice Slush Day. \n\n\n\nCommercially\, the first slushy drink can be traced to a man by the name of Omar Knedlik. In the 1950s\, after using parts from an automobile air conditioner\, Knedlik built a rudimentary frozen beverage machine. As a result\, the first slushies in the late 1950s and early 1960s were made by supercooling.

SUMMARY:National Don't Fry Day
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL DON’T FRY DAY | Friday Before Memorial Day – National Day Calendar \n\n\n\nNATIONAL DON’T FRY DAY \n\n\n\nEach year on the Friday before Memorial Day\, National Don’t Fry Day aims to raise awareness of all the risks of overexposure to the sun.  It is important for everyone to remember to use sun protection and sun safety practices. \n\n\n\n#DontFryDay\n\n\n\nUnfortunately\, skin cancer is increasing in the United States\, and the American Cancer Society estimates that one American dies every hour from skin cancer.  The risk for ultraviolet (UV) damage to the skin increases as we spend more time enjoying the outdoors now that warmer weather is upon us. We need to take precautions when we are outside in the sun.  Using a good sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher\, wearing sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat are a few ways to get started with sun safety.

SUMMARY:Memorial Day
DESCRIPTION:MEMORIAL DAY – May 27\, 2024 – National Day Calendar \n\n\n\nMEMORIAL DAY\n\n\n\nEach year in the United States\, Americans observe the Federal holiday\, Memorial Day\, the last Monday in May. It honors and remembers all men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Memorial Day is also a day to remember all loved ones who have passed away. \n\n\n\n#MemorialDay\n\n\n\nTraditionally on Memorial Day\, the flag of the United States of America is raised briskly to the top of the staff then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position where it remains until noon. At noon\, it is then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day. \n\n\n\nWhen the flag is at half-staff\, the position is in remembrance of the more than one million men and women who gave their lives for their country. Raising the flag at noon signifies the nation lives\, that the country is resolved not to let their sacrifice be in vain but to rise up in their honor and continue to fight for liberty and justice for all. \n\n\n\nIn the United States\, Memorial Day also traditionally marks the beginning of summer. \n\n\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE Memorial Day\n\n\n\nAttend Memorial Day services in your community. In your own way\, pay tribute in remembrance of service members who have died while serving. Visit a veterans’ cemetery to honor those who’ve impacted your life. Use #MemorialDay to post on social media. \n\n\n\nMEMORIAL DAY HISTORY\n\n\n\nHonoring the men and women who have died while serving in the military\, communities\, individuals\, and organizations have kept Memorial Day in various forms in the United States since the end of the Civil War. General John Logan first called for a nationwide day of remembrance on May 5\, 1868. The observance was called Decoration Day\, and it was observed on May 30th\, 1868. \n\n\n\nDecoration Day\n\n\n\nGeneral James Garfield spoke at Arlington National Cemetery with Generals Grant\, Howard\, Logan\, Pane\, Wool\, and Hancock in attendance. Volunteers also decorated the graves of 20\,000 Union and Confederate soldiers. \n\n\n\nAcross the country\, humble tributes occurred on that first Decoration Day. Just outside Fort Stevens near Washington\, D.C.\, there was a small cemetery where 40 soldiers were buried\, one of whom belonged to a widow from Northern Vermont. He was one of three sons she lost to the war. On Decoration Day\, she went to the cemetery carrying 40 wreaths for 40 graves. \n\n\n\nSomeone placed a laurel wreath upon the head of a Lincoln statue at City Hall\, Washington\, D.C. \n\n\n\nIn Cincinnati\, Hamilton and Dayton Railroads transported passengers to the Spring Grove Cemetery.  As a tribute\, communities displayed flags at half-mast along the routes. More volunteers placed floral wreaths on the soldiers’ graves\, and speeches were made. Many of the first Decoration Days recognized only the Union soldiers. However\, other events included the Confederate soldiers as well. Over time\, the day grew to include all those soldiers lost during the conflict. \n\n\n\nDecoration Day gradually became known as Memorial Day and now honors all U.S. service members who have died during a military conflict. Memorial Day continued to be observed on May 30th for many years. Then\, in 1968\, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1968. Since 1971\, Memorial Day has been observed the last Monday of May.
